📷Join us in congratulating Michael Penning as he assumes the role of Assistant Principal of East High School, effective July 1, 2024, pending board of education approval. 📷 Michael Penning, currently serving as an interim assistant principal for East High School, replaces former assistant principal Vimarys Caya. Caya recently relocated out of state for a new opportunity. “I am excited and honored to continue to serve the East High Family in this new role,” shared Penning. “I look forward to working to ensure the success of all our students during their time at East and as they pursue life after high school.” . Penning began his career at WCSD in 2005, teaching in the social studies department at East High School. In 2016, he became the performance-based diploma academy coordinator at East, where he currently serves for the remainder of the school year. In this capacity, Penning works to create an environment that increases graduation rates and prevents dropouts. Penning’s dedication also stretches across the district to West High School, where he has held the title of head boys soccer coach since 2008, receiving Mississippi Valley Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2017. . Penning earned his Principalship and Masters of Arts in Education with an emphasis in educational psychology and professional development from UNI. His Bachelor of Arts degree is in History Education with a social studies endorsement for grades 7-12 is from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.
