On the day Mr P came before Cork Circuit Criminal Court for trial , and ultimately entered guilty pleas, the Garda investigation team behind his prosecution was itself the subject of an active GSOC criminal investigation concerning that prosecution. The GSOC investigation had commenced on 10 February 2025, approximately one week before trial. It was subsequently closed with a finding of no wrongdoing. Mr P says neither he nor the witnesses he identified were interviewed before it was concluded.
