i dont collect to build my following. you'll never be a part of a 'fam', 'krew', 'warriors', 'society' or anything else of mine. i buy to build artists i believe in. this clique 'ownership' stuff, bothers me. artist & art over agendas ๐ค

1โฃ toxicity in the community
usually i'm outspoken about red flags of collectors/curators, but it takes two for them to work & such guys to continue
a few examples
๐ด are you single? has no place in what true art collectors will collect
๐ด send me a "nice" selfie & i'll buy (@therealdonjibo)
๐ด "curating" unminted selfies (@ch3iron)
๐ด compromise your art for their self-pity party #blamekato type contests
etc...
it's fuckin sad, not just their attempts, but those artists who feed into them
while i've blocked these "boys", i continue to hear negative stories from artists about them (more than cited above). succeeding & gaining exposure here as an artist is hard, i know, but you take on their negative stigma when you play into their games, by association. there are true collectors here for the art who actually care about your creations & emotion/mind that's behind the art. i won't give my list of the good collectors/curators, as these are my own opinions. so many artists are doing great work, but playing into the games of these people with ulterior motives will not lead to long term success here. those of you who associate with me as a friend have experienced them not collecting your art & for that, i appreciate your loyalty to my values & love for who you are as people, through action in sharing our similar values. if they get nothing from you, they'll buy your cheapest art as a 'ticket' to justify them sliding into your dm's.
you are creators, not objects of other's games. many of you came here to share your art, not to be someone else's pawns of exploitation. again, from my past commentary posts, we all have our reasons, boundaries, and values that we adhere to. if you play their games, just do it on your own terms & reverse who's taking advantage of who
i say all of this, not to sway your actions, but to make you aware that games are being played between some "collectors & curators" that the purest of you, never signed up for. just be aware. trust matters. apply discernment before drama happens to you. that is all ๐ค

1โฃ i'm tired of seeing low effort posts from collectors.
"i buy stuff / here's a low effort art image that i'll let you assume is my own / say 'gm back'" nonsense. artists, let me assure you, most times you're a blur in a 'gm' back sea, unless you're an attractive woman (in many cases). they're casting nets & upping their engagement %
2โฃ spend that time engaging in spaces where you get to share your personality & your art seen. here's a few who run good ones; @MasterC1979, @KhosraviPantea, @KeziaBarnett, @Jeni_Pepen. making your efforts/time more efficient is one way to avoid burnout here. i'm not saying they endorse this post, they're just ones who i know host good vibe spaces
3โฃ if you dm a collector first, obviously don't shill & don't leave the conversation open-ended. be specific, give the conversation a direction to head in. yes, all collectors have different schedules, thus varying availability. not all will reply for a variety of reasons, so if you dm, make it count & be specific upfront
4โฃ adding to number 3, explore a collector's collection first, make sure your style fits their taste & read through their past feed before dm'ing to get a feel for their interests & personality. engaging more than 'gm' or generic comments, before dm'ing, is suggested
5โฃ i said it before, trust matters. don't be naive. a bad collector, with influence, can ruin your name or at least attempt to. no one needs drama, if they're not here for the art, spend your time on the true art collectors here. it'll serve you better in the long run. why trade your personal values/morals for the possibility of 1 or 2 sells, when you could get a lifetime of support & multiple sells from true collectors?
6โฃ let's talk plagiarism, as an artist. taking existing/public domain art/photograph and putting your style on the source is not art. it's like saying, "i built this car" when all you did was paint it red
as always, general advice/commentary. just things to consider ๐ค

can't sleep, so another #p4wining ๐ท post.
general advice, personal situations may not apply to all
artists,
1โฃ use the tez/eth combination for your portfolio. why? i've always suggested low, medium, and high priced revenue streams, together. different collector types between the two and some overlap. no reason to mint just higher priced 1of1 eth pieces & hoping for consistent sells to maintain a steady monthly income. no reason to under perform your potential with just low priced tezos pieces, either. consider the time put into each piece of art, consider quality by self-curation of where the piece belongs. you want a steady stream of sells, be them small and/or large. cover this with pricing across levels, editions (1, limited, open), etc...
2โฃ attend spaces & speak if allowed. as a collector, i can't tell you how many new artists i've found that way. as a collector who takes interest in the artist first, spaces allow us to see your character & personalize you in ways that tweets don't always do.
3โฃ review collectors' collections. does their taste match your style? if so, follow & engage the collector in comments. if you're heard, you have a greater chance of being seen. targeting their taste & your style raises the chances of being collected.
4โฃ don't over retweet others, pushing your personal art/posts out of sight. support your friends and what you love, of course, but you should consider your feed as a 'blog' of your opinions, your art, your thoughts (including quote tweets)- more than showing others. find a balance that feels right, but also self-emphasized.
5โฃ do not let lack of sells discourage you. if you're an artist at heart, then you continue to art, regardless of results. many times it's a matter of time and exposure, not your art. there's different collector types that cover a variety of art styles. create & wait and let your account grow til more results come. i've spoken with so many great artists who have considered giving up and it breaks my heart.
i love this community for the people i met, a little more than just the art i've collected. if anything in these types of posts can help a little, i'm happy to help or discuss further in comments ๐ค
i'm off to bed for now and will follow up on any replies later sunday.
closing thoughts for the night, #p4wining ๐ท
1โฃ i don't care about roi. seeing an artist gain faith in their efforts is more rewarding
2โฃ i've put over 6 figures into art here, over the past 2.5+ years, what comes of it comes- friendships and/or reward. i don't buy to flip
3โฃ i care about artists who care about collectors who care about their art
4โฃ just because you're new to this art market, doesn't mean you're new to art. followers, mean nothing to me, about you as an artist
5โฃ i've had my hands in so many artists' wip, never asked for credit. we all need help, i don't use artists to promote myself
6โฃ too many artists are too hard on themselves. action is better than theory, you do you
goodnight, love this community of artists as long as you're pure in your pursuits ๐ค
the infection spreads #p4wining๐ท
i went to buy art today, until i saw this (1st image). it's simply, sad. an artist asked me the other day, how the community has changed when i first started in 2020. answer in 3rd pic
no, i don't care if i lose some followers for this. those who know me, know my heart lies with artists here. let me explain...
1โฃ i've always told artists, get paid, not played. self-serving marketers, like @realkatoog, uses people as promotional tools for himself. there's a difference between temporary event tags & an ongoing self-serving pity party (#blamekato) for judgements against him, brought on by his own actions
2โฃ your art is; the visual/audio, title, & description. when you compromise any of those, you turn your art into an act of desperation with inherited, ugly, stigmas. it's as ineffective as a promotional flyer on your car windshield, but placed there by you (2nd image). you can't blame the community for 'not being about art' when you feed into that. there's several legit collectors & circles, outside of me/mine, who don't play those games with artists & their creations
3โฃ for non-events, if you constantly include such tags in your art's posts, consistently fruitless tags (name & hashtags) for the overwhelming majority, it causes you to inherit his negative stigma among other collectors & is more fruitless than fruitful in terms of being collected by either. simply do the math for his follower count vs what he can/will buy. the only 100% certainty of doing that is spreading his brand, not your identity as an artist
4โฃ people who are "real" about who/how they are, don't need to tell you they are. people here, who are real og's, don't label themselves as such. he started here 1 year, 2 months ago. the *real og* people/artists here, don't identify in such a way. they never had to because they earned their way to the top or becoming known- not bought their way there. it's just marketing & branding
5โฃ do i support artists who use his tags in posts? yes, but only because i haven't shared all i know from observations & the many artists' dm's to me. this is just me talking on a single topic, not all i know/been shared. every single artist i've opened up with what i know, has stopped using his tags. as i said in a past post, i welcome all non-artist roles here (curators/collectors), until i see red flags. earlier on when i first saw kato long ago, i even dm'd him since we shared/supported a lot of the same artists. i offered a nft from a well known artist at the time for him to giveaway to his followers, as a sign of goodwill. so just know, it's not like i started out not appreciating his collecting efforts in the community, until i saw & heard more as he grew
6โฃ as always, i'm here to share my opinion, but at the end of the day- i want artists to make their own decisions & conclusions. we all have our various moral compasses/factors & i respect that. i speak to so many who are just trying to be artists, they don't always see all that is going on. i understand & accept that, it's why i speak for awareness, not from an agenda
i can overlook his "litter" on the community highway here, but when i see it in artist's homes, their art where they "live" & express themselves, it just saddens me. have more respect for your art than i do ๐ค

1โฃ another, male artist only, #artshare. post art, link, talk about it, etc...
N๐ซ girls allowed
2โฃ this thread is because i really dont get the #supportwomenartists type cries for support vs the men's efforts. so, consider this my counter to just highlight some male artists, for balance. retweeting what i connect with
3โฃ yes, i own more art of women & by women, than men. majority of collectors are men, many of which buy based on artist's attractiveness, sadly. is it automatic? no, but it happens a lot more than the reverse. yes, pervy male collectors, i get shared your dms from female artists. my 2.5 years here of dms with female artists excludes any such ulterior motives on my end, like that
4โฃ my philosophy has always been to support who you want & what you resonates with, it shouldn't be artist gender or attractiveness, based. that said, tonight's thread is for the guys ๐ซ bro hug, or something
...after seeing some things in the #nftcommunity & a talk with a female artist the other day ๐
for balance in the community, if youre an "ugly guy" drop your art in comments. i'll be picking ones to rt, with selfie if available.
โ no girls allowed ๐
don't ask
just trying a new tag, #p4wining๐ท
as usual, general advice, specific situations may vary by artists, etc... even if i expand on points, there's more to them
1โฃ don't lose all respect for your art's price & edition count when minting on tez/objkt, events are an exclusion for such things. yes, it's a different collector base & chain, etc, but your art doesn't lose value based on where it's minted. edition counts should still be kept lower than you may originally think (catalyst for a secondary market / price discovery). scarcity still matters, unless an open/limited mint, for the objective of growing your ownerbase, exposure tweets by those who collect, etc... is in play. if you do a limited edition, make sure the price (if sold out) still adds up to what your 1of1's go for or slightly higher
2โฃ in sharing a list of successful artists, earlier tonight, not one of them ever branded their art tweets/profiles with a potential collector's tag/name. even techbubble recently said, grow *your* identity, despite his nftydreams pfp mistake a while back. the successful artists, the real "og's" i've grown with & been surpassed by here, never had an 888โญ๏ธinner circle on their things. not enough? just do the math. self-serving marketers with tens of thousands of followers is never going to buy from all of you who do their promotion for them. don't confuse this with contests/events. sustainability is a key to success, not a single one-time sell for an artist, that may or may not ever happen
3โฃ female artists, who aren't self models for their own photography, yet post more selfies with curious 'angles & inclusions' than their actual art, what type of collectors are you going for? if that's your game for money, so be it. however, expect stigmas & manipulative efforts by men when it's not part of your art, assigned to you by legit collectors who actually care about art & you as a person, not an object
4โฃ your pricing is not always the issue. i could list two pieces of the same style of art and let people guess which is the smaller, unknown artist & which has tons of followers selling at higher prices than the smaller one could dream of. the results would not be 100% either way. yes, other factors play into this, but the core one is *you* and your story here. network, communicate, express yourself- not a persona
5โฃ engage sincerely & openly. scare yourself, if you have to. know that diving into conversations in the community is far more beneficial than spending an hour "gm" every large collector. yes, big collectors collect, but collectors of all sizes are followed by other collectors. don't forget though, fellow artists have their own circle of potential collectors that follow them and have no idea who you are yet. another reason number 4 ^ is also important
6โฃ personalize your approach & i mean more than the art vs artist selfie method. art share spaces/threads that let you talk, video split screen tweets where your art is forefront & the topic of your audio, don't underestimate artists groups, live in the comments, let your personality & opinions be known. if someone doesn't care about what you have to say, it's just natural purification of having followers who do & want to
7โฃ lastly, i touched on this before, but support those who support you, first- not twitter's algorithms. make lists & actively use them. let your notifications be the next profile you visit or art you look at. i assure you, it doesn't take that long & it's timely interaction if you do it real time, after you post something
despite my "goodnight" post earlier, i couldn't sleep til i got these things off my mind. enjoy your thursday all ๐ค
