@des_soares @6am It's so important that we frame fatigue management as #PatientSafety and not as being 'soft' or following a masochistic surgical tradition. With what we know about fatigue and #PatientError, it is absolutely *not* a matter of pride to boast about how long you can be on call.
I don't understand what consultants have to gain from demanding systematic under-claiming.
Consultants, if this is you- don't you dare complain about junior #burnout, #PatientError, and chronic understaffing. Fix it. Work *with* juniors not against them. Fair pay for fair work.
This is so upsetting to hear.
The ability to speak up without repercussion is crucial for prevention of both #PatientError and workforce #burnout.
But also, do consultants realise that current trainees will one day look after them in old age? 🤔

Heard yet another story today about a trainee being threatened with consequences if they spoke up.
If speaking up is perceived as a threat it would imply there is a problem to speak up about....
Culture needs to change?

40 hours/week of disrespectful treatment is easily as damaging as 100 hours/week of respectful but fatiguing work. If we're going to make a serious dent in #PatientError and physician #burnout we have to research in multifactorial ways. #Complexity #MedEd
@ladygasdr 😱😱😱 I worked those hours. Payroll would send our claims back for correcting because they didn't believe we worked them! And there was nothing to be proud of- I am 😖😢😱 looking back on the care provided, knowing what we know now about #fatigue and #patienterror.
When are we going to get serious about #fatigue in the same way as the aviation industry? As a profession, we're not any less culpable just because our errors 'only' harm individuals rather than planeloads. #PatientError
