One of the most significant parts of the testimony for me has been the evidence surrounding Lindsay’s apparent suicide attempt.
Testimony indicated that Lindsay crushed multiple medications that are central nervous system depressants before taking them. Crushing certain immediate release medications can allow them to be absorbed more quickly than swallowing them whole, depending on the medication.
Medical testimony also described lacerations to both wrists & her neck. The neck laceration reportedly did not require sutures, while the wrist injuries did. Although the prosecution has characterized the injuries as superficial & not life threatening, suggesting they were part of a calculated plan, I struggle with that conclusion when looking at the totality of what happened.
From my perspective, the evidence points to Lindsay attempting to end her life in multiple ways: ingesting medications, cutting herself, & then jumping from the second story window of the home.
According to testimony from Boston Medical Center, Lindsay coded twice after arriving at the hospital. Medically speaking, she required resuscitation on two occasions.
When trauma patients arrive in the emergency department, the medical team follows a triage process, treating the most life threatening injuries first while multiple providers work simultaneously to stabilize the patient. Lindsay’s hospitalization was extensive, & I believe understanding the severity of those injuries is important when evaluating the testimony presented throughout this trial.
This is where I have questions.
According to Patrick Clancy’s testimony, when he found Lindsay & asked what happened, she replied, “I tried to kill myself.” When he immediately asked, “Where are the kids?” he testified that she responded, “They’re in the basement.”
What gives me pause is the severity of the injuries she sustained.
The evidence presented at trial showed that Lindsay:
•Overdosed on medication.
•Suffered lacerations to her wrists and neck.
•Jumped from a second story window.
•Sustained devastating cervical & thoracic spinal injuries that left her permanently paralyzed.
•Fractured ribs on both sides of her chest.
Developed bilateral hemothoraces, requiring chest tubes on both sides.
•Was found lying outside in the snow & arrived at the hospital profoundly hypothermic, with testimony placing her body temperature at approximately 82°F.
•Had cerebrospinal fluid leaking from her nose upon arrival at the hospital.
•Was administered Narcan by first responders as her pupils were constricted, but did not respond. Toxicology later confirmed there were no opioids in her system. Testimony & medical evidence suggest her constricted pupils could instead be explained by her catastrophic cervical spine injury, which can disrupt the sympathetic nerve pathways responsible for pupil dilation.
When I consider the severity of Lindsay’s injuries, I have a hard time reconciling them with the testimony that she was able to clearly answer two questions in complete sentences immediately afterward. I’m not saying it was impossible, I’m saying it’s one of the biggest questions I still have after hearing the evidence.
Another detail that stands out is that, based on the testimony so far, no one else has testified to hearing Lindsay speak after Patrick’s account. That alone doesn’t prove anything, but it’s something I continue to consider.
There’s no question Lindsay was struggling with her mental health. Patrick testified that he was exhausted by everything they had been going through, & I think it’s understandable that both of them were.
I’m not claiming to have the answers. I’m simply looking at the testimony and trying to understand how all of the pieces fit together. Right now, some things still don’t fully add up to me.
I’m asking questions, not drawing conclusions. I’ll continue listening to all of the evidence before deciding what I believe.

So the only person that heard #lindsayclancy speak actual words was #patrickclancy? But the first responders said she was unable to speak, mumbling? She supposedly crushed the pills? She heard a male voice? What if he actually did this the entire time? None of this adds up.

I just learned about this organization to help support Families struggling with Mental Illness created by #PatrickClancy and his sisters in memory of Cora, Dawson and Callan. I wish the media would share this. It’s amazing how Patrick is taking this tragedy and trying to make some good out of it.
