💡This week at the UN’s first-ever #PeacebuildingWeek, CIC’s Betty Wainaina, Program Director, moderated the panel “Showcasing Kenya’s Peacebuilding Architecture,” to highlight lessons from the review process of the #PBAR.
In her remarks, she highlights:
➕ Building and sustaining positive peace is a complex and inherently political endeavour, requiring careful attention and sensitivity to the respective country context.
▶️ Nationally-owned and nationally-led prevention is the name of the game.
💱 Prevention is smart development. The shifting financing for development landscape requires a more deliberate effort at breaking the silos between development and peacebuilding through an integrated approach.
🤝 No one country can do it alone. Partnerships are critical…both through the multilateral and regional institutional architecture.
These points highlight 🇰🇪 Kenya’s commendable approach towards #PBAR, especially as a low-middle-income country with promising potential for both economic + social development and general stability. By considering an architecture that takes a whole-of-society approach, this will address some of the risk factors and pockets of fragility within the country.

I had the honor today to meet with @UN SG @antonioguterres, along with my friend Ambassador @Samuel_Zbogar, PR of @SLOtoUN.
We discussed the #PBAR process and agreed that it is timely more than ever to strengthen the architecture in order to achieve our common ambition of building and sustaining peace.
The 2025 #PBAR has kicked off!
Honored to participate in the first ever informal interactive dialogue of the #UNGA and the #UNSC with the @UNPeacebuilding Commission.
As one of the co-facilitators, I expressed appreciation to Member States for their solid support to reinforcing the #UN peacebuilding architecture and making it fit-for-purpose, as drafted in the co-facilitators Elements Paper, aiming towards achieving the ultimate goal of sustained peace.
We continue our close engagement!
At the informal Dialogue on the Review of #PBAR, along with #UNGA, #UNSC and @UNPeacebuilding, Portugal highlighted importance of the Multilateral system, preventive diplomacy, national strategies and sustained funding to a more effective role of #peacebuilding and #peacekeeping
