@PDSD_PLC A4: Maybe a “Complete Your Clearances” event would make it easier for parents to apply for the clearances online and print them out right at school so that they can attend events and volunteer right from the beginning of the school year. #PDSDEdChat m
A3: I like to post photos or videos of things we are doing in class. I have never tried virtual volunteering before, but a google hangout Read Aloud would be fun to involve those who can’t visit the classroom! #PDSDEdChat
A2: #KidWriting is an amazing opportunity for parents to be in the Kindergarten classroom daily and be an integral part of their writing growth! We also love Mr. D, a parent from 6 years ago, who still visits us monthly to sing silly songs! #PDSDEdChat
A1: Kindergarten loves to get parents in the classroom! At BTS Night we invite parents to be guest readers, kid writing volunteers, joining us for celebrations, helping out at centers, etc. We also keep parents updated with Class Dojo and Twitter on what’s new! #PDSDEdChat
@MrLeightEdu @misskuhn2 @PDSD_PLC @PennParkART @Twitter I’d be happy to help with this! I have some great tip sheets and best practices I can share to make it an easy experience for twitter newbies! #PDSDEdChat
Had so much fun tonight, @PennDelco ! Thanks for joining and supporting #PDSDEdChat and parent/family engagement. Nothing like a little #CouchPD with some fantastic #teachers and #principals! #TeacherAppreciationWeek

@misskuhn2 @PDSD_PLC @PennParkART @Twitter Great idea!! This would be a smart thing to do for teachers too that still need help setting up their accounts! #PDSDEdChat
@SV_Counselors What a great reminder. A smile, thank you, and a handshake will bring them back next week! #PDSDEdChat
A4: I 100% agree with @PennParkART that tech is our biggest resource. Having a @Twitter night in Sept. would encourage parent involvement. We could show them how to set up an account, & set them up to follow their child’s teacher! #PDSDEdChat https://t.co/mGcd7WUlA6
Q4: What resources, supports, expertise, and other factors would make the biggest difference in increasing parent involvement in your school? #PDSDEdChat

#ThankYou for participating in #PDSDEdChat tonight, @PennDelco ! I learned so much about parent and family engagement across our district, and I'm taking away so many great new ideas! #YouRock -- @MrLeightEdu #TeacherAppreciationWeek

@PDSD_PLC Q4: Be publically and personally thankful to parent volunteers. Provide a platform for parents to connect with each other. I think parents still ascribe to a “safety in numbers” when it comes to going outside of their comfort zone. #PDSDEdChat
@103Owls @PDSD_PLC I agree! I’m struggling to share info with families speaking English as a second language. Same issue when I conduct the youth orchestra, too. What translation resources can we find? Google translate has worked for convo. #PDSDEdChat
@PDSD_PLC Utilize technology! The parents of our students are just as busy as teachers. Using apps to communicate & interact with parents will increase their involvement without making it a hassle for them. @Twitter, @ClassDojo, @YouTube and @Flipgrid are easy, & FUN to use! #PDSDEdChat
@MrsAMiller205 Great point. Perhaps if we advertise "Younger Siblings are WELCOME" we would get more volunteers with minimal headaches. I've always had positive experiences with younger siblings. It's a huge treat for the class to have a little one visit too! #PDSDEdChat
Our grade 1 teachers have mystery readers come into their classes. I think it’s an amazing way to get our students/parents excited for reading. Future: A twitter convo with parents throughout the day, with the students posting pictures or info of what we are doing. #PDSDEdChat https://t.co/y4Y3l6LjsZ
Q3: What opportunities do you (or could you) offer parents to engage with your students during the school day? #PDSDEdChat

A4: I've kicked around the idea of building a team/committee at @ParksideES dedicated to growing family engagement. Starting with our helping to grow and strengthen our amazing PTL was my first step this year! #PDSDEdChat https://t.co/oQVYPcenPp
Q4: What resources, supports, expertise, and other factors would make the biggest difference in increasing parent involvement in your school? #PDSDEdChat

@PDSD_PLC I've always found that taking an active interest in the home lives of students is imperative to really connecting with parents/families. Actively reaching out to parents via @ClassDojo & @Twitter with frequent updates on their student & the class as a whole is huge! #PDSDEdChat
@mr_pignataro @PDSD_PLC @ClassDojo Have you ever considered a quick Google Form to see which family members have hidden musical talents? Could be fun! #UncleJimmyPlaystheKazoo #PDSDEdChat
@PDSD_PLC @PennDelco Seeing the huge turnout for Community Days in the Penn Delco School District always astounds me. I've never been apart of another district that offers such a fantastic way to integrate schools, families and other integral parts of the communities we teach in! #PDSDEdChat
