We have tragic news coming in. FIDE Master, FIDE Trainer, International Arbiter, International Organizer, and a man who has supported Chess through his entire life - Peter Long has died at the age of 63. According to the Facebook post of Peter's friend Maung Maung Lwin, he was visiting Yangon, Myanmar. He passed away in his hotel room while sleeping last night. To many of the readers of the ChessBase India newspage, Peter Long must be a familiar name - he has done immense work to promote chess in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and many more countries. Previously a part of FIDE as Secretary of the Trainers’ Commission, Peter visited India numerous times - the photo used for this post was taken when he accompanied Jacob and Kallia for a training camp in Mumbai last year, and visited the ChessBase India office.
