I really enjoyed this interview talking India + Asian golf with Peter Thomson. This 1 minute answer on slow play is 😲. #peterthomson

5 times Open Champion Peter Thomson started wearing a glove in the late 60s I believe, or maybe the 1970s.
Thomson's career was just prior to television coverage, sponsors logos. When rounds of golf took 3 hours 20 mins. #peterthomson

There is a lot to like about this image of Peter Thomson. Yes, Hogan-like position at the top.
No i-phones, no logo's, no visual branding.
Men and women out in droves watching the links maestro.
Thanks @TheGolfDivoTee for your efforts in sharing such imagery. #peterthomson #linksgolf

I'm guessing at 1955... Peter Thomson.
This looks like a staged press photo of the great man, the glove less 5 times Open Champion... Australia's greatest ever golfer. #peterthomson
In 1958 Peter Thomson shot 63 at Lytham & St Annes.
I think that is a more impressive feat that shooting 63 with today's equipment.

1955 & The Open at St Andrews.
Was the first prize 1000 pounds or was it the honour and glory of winning the oldest golf championship of them all?
#peterthomson won his 2nd Open championship.
The qualifying score was 148.
Five Americans made the cut.
Ed Furgol finished 19th.
Byron Nelson finished T32nd.
- There were 2 Argentinians in the top 10 and neither of them was Roberto DeVincenzo.
- Bobby Locke (South Africa) came 4th. #bobbylocke
- Peter Thomson shot 281 (71-68-70-72) to win by two shots from John Fallon (Scotland)
- The 'road hole' (17th) turned from a 'bogey 5' to a par 4, bringing the par from 73 to 72.
1000 pounds in 1955 ... was $2800USD
Peter Thomson, in 1955 had 5 other professional victories;
New Zealand Open, Caltex tournament, Speedo, The Wiseman and the Pelaco tournaments.
Thomson won The Open again in 1956 for 3 in a row...and also in 1956 he played 7 times on the PGA Tour, with 5 of them being top 10s, including a win at the Texas Open, T4th at the US Open, 4th at the World Championship of Golf and T6th at Colonial.
Thomson played 16 times in the USA in 1957 and had three 2nd place finishes and 7 top tens from 16 starts. He didnt play that many events in the USA in one year again until 1984, as a Senior.
By the year of 1960 Peter Thomson was on his own sort of world tour, playing championships in Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, UK, Asia, India and Japan through the 1960s and 70s before a wrist injury in the early 1970s (in Asia) curtailed his performance.
He returned to peak in 1985, in his 50s and won 9 times on the Champions Tour.
"Portrait" open Tues-Sat 11-4 & Sun 12-4 in Gullane.

There is a letter of #PeterThomson desuading the King from return, yet in 2002 when he returned, #Khalilzad told him our paths divert here, showing him the door that took him away from Afghan politics. Those that wanted him return were his own Afghans, but those that used him-1
Maybe not but could #QueenElizabethII have persuaded the late King Zahir to return home when the late former President Najibullah repeatedly invited him to save Afghanistan. But he refused to do so at the cost of state failure that later led to the rise of Taliban.
