Quick #pgio tests with random reads on 150MB work size varying shared_buffer from 50 to 400 MB and remaining RAM from 50 to 350 GB (for filesystem cache) For read-only single-block workloads, better to give RAM to @PostgreSQL buffers. (but no writes and no Seq Scan here)

With @kevinclosson SLOB method, you chose exactly what you want to measure (reading pages from shared buffers, or from filesystem cache, or from storage) by sizing the memory areas (@PostgreSQL shared buffers and pages available to filesystem cache) and the #pgio work unit.
