IN PHOTOS | #PHNavy Reinforces Role as Maritime Security Partner during Governance Forum 2026
The Philippine Navy (PN), through the Leadership and Excellence Center, conducted the 3rd Leg of the PN Governance Forum Series 2026, featuring Dr Dennis C Coronacion, Chair of the Department of Political Science of the University of Santo Tomas, as Guest of Honor and Speaker at Navy Headquarters in Manila, September 22.
“The Philippine Navy is no longer just a brown-water combatant force designed to fight the internal conflicts of the past. [The Navy is] transitioning into a blue-water, expeditionary force — the vanguard of our forward defense, engineered to project deterrence, secure our sovereign rights, and safeguard the strategic sea lanes vital to our national survival,” Dr. Coronacion told Philippine Navy personnel, emphasizing their crucial role as partners in national development and maritime security.
Dr. Coronacion also highlighted the need for the Philippine Navy to go beyond its traditional military responsibilities and explore how the country’s seas build, sustain, and protect the modern democratic state. He underscored the importance of standing firm against intimidation, safeguarding the country’s seas, protecting the Filipino people, and securing the Philippine archipelago.
He likewise encouraged Navy personnel to remain committed nation-builders, emphasizing that with every operation, the Navy carries the country’s “economic survival, territorial integrity, and sovereign dignity of over 115 million Filipinos.”
“When you don that uniform every morning, you are not merely stepping into a military role — you are executing a vital duty deeply embedded in the grand narrative of Philippine state building,” he said.
The PN Governance Forum is an activity that supports the organization’s continuous transformation toward becoming a modern and multi-domain, self-reliant, and credible maritime force.
