Gold prices are currently at a critical juncture where three factors converge: a tug-of-war between bullish and bearish fundamentals, a technical correction following overbought conditions, and a market holding its breath for the upcoming CPI data.
The bulls draw confidence primarily from the reduced probability of interest rate hikes following the surprisingly weak non-farm payrolls report, alongside long-term support from central bank gold purchases.
The bears rely mainly on the hawkish stance of Federal Reserve officials and the persistent risk of inflation driven by unyielding oil prices.
If the $4,360–$4,370 level—a key battleground between bulls and bears—is breached, the short-term outlook shifts downward to the $4,340–$4,320 range.
Conversely, if the CPI data is moderate and gold prices stabilize above $4,380, a breakout past the previous high of $4,435 could open the door for a move toward the $4,460–$4,490 range.
Today’s US CPI data for July is the pivotal variable; market expectations are for headline CPI to rise 3.4% year-over-year (down from 3.5%) and core CPI to rise 2.5% year-over-year (down from 2.6%).
The CPI figures will dictate gold's short-term direction: if the data comes in below expectations, rate-hike expectations will cool further, potentially allowing gold to break through the $4,380–$4,420 resistance zone and challenge the previous high of $4,435.
If the data exceeds expectations, leading to a repricing of inflation risks and a rise in rate-hike probabilities, gold prices could retreat to test the $4,340–$4,310 support zone.
In the short term, focus on the $4,380–$4,390 area; if the price stabilizes above $4,390, it could retest the US session high of $4,404, followed by the $4,420 level.
If gold fails to hold this position, expect a pullback to test support near the daily low of $4,360; a decisive break below this level would target $4,340.

The recovery of the $4,360 support level pushed the price to $4,404; following the breakout above the $4,380 pivot point, the price has resumed its upward trajectory toward $4,430.
With the US trading session now underway and gold holding above $4,390, we maintain our bullish outlook from earlier today, targeting the $4,420–$4,440 range.
In the short term, we are focusing on the $4,400–$4,405 resistance zone; a breakout above this level would pave the way for a further rise to $4,420–$4,440.
If the price faces resistance and pulls back from the $4,400–$4,405 area, we will look for long entry opportunities at $4,380, targeting levels above $4,400.

Gold surged again this morning, with the price breaking above the $4,400 mark and reaching a high of $4,435 before pulling back to around $4,380.
Although gold has reclaimed the $4,400 level after a two-month hiatus, it has not yet established a firm foothold there.
The overall trading strategy for today remains bullish, focusing on entering long positions on dips.
Intraday attention should be focused on the $4,393 level—the point where the current rally began. This is a critical support level today, serving a similar function to the $4,313 correction low seen yesterday.
In an upward trend, normal corrections typically do not break below the initial breakout point; this serves as a key reference for our intraday trading strategy.
In the short term, we are monitoring the $4,370–$4,360 support zone. If the price holds above this area, we will maintain a bullish outlook, targeting $4,390–$4,400, with a potential further move to $4,420 upon a breakout.
