The City of Nanaimo is turning #DiscontentCity into a prison camp – not for the sake of public safety, but to repress the power homeless people & supporters have been building for 5 months now. The #prisoncampification of Discontent is meant to crush our movement for justice.
McKay says the City "needs to know who is coming and going" and will not allow anyone to stay at #DiscontentCity "in an uncontrolled fashion,” justifying this #prisoncampification as a public safety measure. But research finds no link between homeless camps and crime rates.
The City will only permit residents to remain after Oct 25 if they've signed up for housing, have photo ID, and are "genuinely homeless." Those who are not homeless may be escorted off the property and arrested. This is the #prisoncampification of #DiscontentCity.
