Incredible work going on behind the scenes at Mountjoy Prison Progression Unit today, getting ready for ‘Pros and Cons’ - a symposium, music festival, album launch and much more. Spirits are high and we can’t wait. So grateful to get to meet and work with this community 🫶
Two in-person conferences in 1 week seemed like a good idea on paper… for once it actually WAS!Buzzing from meeting so many sound folks & hearing such inspiring talks at EPEA & NECS.
At NECS I spoke about prison radio as care in Norway’s RøverRadion 📻

Started a very exciting new chapter last week - I’m now officially a postdoctoral fellow in the musicology department at @UniOsloHF. Delighted to be working with @AineMaps on the #prisonsofnote project, exploring music, sound and power in prisons in Norway, Iceland and Ireland!!
Well done on a seriously valuable Careers Forum w/ wise words frm @Michael_Palmese @itsioulakis @AoifDaly @jessie_cawley & Sarah-Jane Gibson🥳
I'll be looking for a postdoc for my #PrisonsOfNote project later this yr so if interested, drop me a line!

@KennyAilbhe @simmplatform Haha thanks for capturing the juggle 😅💚 Wish we were able to be hanging out together in Porto (esp with @Kir_Anderson !!) but hopefully some reunions on the cards in 2022! #PrisonsOfNote
Cool to see Norway’s national museum take their artwork on tour while the new gallery is getting finished. Today they visited Norway’s famous Halden Prison, to give those living & working there a close look at the famous «Brudeferd i Hardanger» (1848)

@EileenHoganUCC @MIDdetention @panteion Not an annual thing, tho it’s a sequel to Music in Detention conf organised by the brilliant Anna Papaeti & @campaignbear at @uniGoettingen in 2013. I’m planning to host a sort of follow up event @UniOslo in the not too distant future — I’ll keep you posted Eileen! #prisonsofnote
Day two highlights include Dr Kirstin Anderson from @UniWestScotland calling for attention to the practices and need for self-care among #prison (music) facilitators and practitioners - these “experts in uncertainty” #soundscapesoftrauma #prisonsofnote
Lessons I learned from day 1 include how to lighten the mood at a Soundscapes of Trauma conference: play this youtube vid of #Halden prison staff choir singing “We Are The World” Roll on day 2! #prisonsofnote
