While on vacation near the Canadian border in North Dakota, my wife and I see what looked like a #qlcs tornado. It lasted 2 to 3 minutes. Fortunately it was over open fields roughly 3 miles SSW of Hwy 43 and Lake Road approx 1635hours @NWSBismarck @NWStulsa @jamesaydelott

I saw some people claiming today would spit out over 50-100 tornadoes We’re still sitting at 0 but obviously we will have to wait and see post-event analysis but I don’t think we are going to come close to those hyperbolic predictions today. #StormChasing #Tornado #QLCS #wxX

⚠️Les #orages sont en train de se structurer en un système convectif quasi linéaire (#QLCS) de la région lyonnaise à la Haute-Marne. 🔶Le principal risque étant les fortes rafales de vent et la grêle, ces orages vont balayer dans les prochaines heures la @bfc_region, la Lorraine, puis l'Alsace, potentiellement en un système plus violent et organisé.

⚠️⚡️Un système convectif quasi-linéaire (#QLCS) continue de progresser de la Champagne-Ardenne au le nord de la Rhône-Alpes. Une autre ligne orageuse s'est déclenchée le long de l'Alsace. Le principal risque vient des rafales de vent: 100 à 130 km/h, ainsi que des grêlons pouvant atteindre jusqu'à 5 cm. De nombreux #arcus sont observés.

So why are #QLCS (quasi-linear convective system) tornado warnings important? 1) Rotation can form, spin-up and drop a tornado quickly. Consequently, they are hard to warn. 2) The entire line of storms can produce these spin-ups on short notice. #severe #sdwx #mnwx

This is a perfect example of what's called a Quasi-Linear Convective System. Tornadoes from these systems can be short but very powerful. As you can see there are a couple of tornado warnings in the Florida panhandle. Heed these warnings! #FLwx #Tornado #TornadoWarning #qlcs
