@AVJ_chem, @sabine_richert and colleagues is investigating and developing new materials to be used as molecular quantum bits - #qubits - for potential applications in #quantum_information science. They are using light to initialize precisely defined quantum states. Traditionally, it has been assumed that #covalent bonds are essential for effective spin-to-spin interactions. In this work, however, they demonstrate that spin polarization transfer can also occur (and with remarkable efficiency!!!) via #non_covalent interactions such as #hydrogen_bonding.
#Cover_explained: Here I depicted photoresponsive supramolecular dyads where light activates a spin-rich quantum state.💡⚡ The bright orange accent here - unpaired electron spins, a key to the qubit behavior explored in the study. Light triggers spin-correlated radical–triplet pairs that form a quartet state. The lightnings between molecules symbolize hydrogen bonds.
