“I watched Queer as Folk when I was too young to watch Queer as Folk. And there was an explicit sex scene in the first episode. On Showtime. And I was like, ‘This is the standard.’”

“You can’t make it too gay!”

A fitting end to the Queering Comics, Queering the Future panel. #queerc2e2

It can never be too gay!!!!! #queerC2E2
#queerc2e2 @ValentinoLucaZ @MarkRMartell Fantastic first panel for the Scapi team at C2E2! What is the importance of academia and historical work in spaces like comics that may have roadblocks due to instutional elitism?
Need to be sure not to tokenize creators and actually lift up voices and vision of queer creators. #queerC2E2
Queer is a political movement about more than representation. How do we do queer comic work that destroys nation states, capitalism, and white supremacy? How do we do comic work that celebrates sexuality as subversive and powerful? #queerC2E2

Queer movement in comics - less divided from “comics.” “Comics shouldn’t have to be divided” Not me, I love having specified areas. Queerness is a political vision bigger than just queer characters. Queer can subvert all the borders around comics. #queerC2E2
This conversation reminds me of the fun reclaiming of queer codes villains that happened last year. https://t.co/uxSACHyrMq #queerC2E2
Hey @c2e2, you gave the Queering Comics panel literally the smallest room possible and it’s completely full with people standing all along the walls and sitting on the floor. Maybe give us more space next year? #queerc2e2
What could be more clearly queer than mutants? #queerC2E2
Marginalized queers telling their own stories and creating their own narratives is part of resistance and survival. These need to be liberation stories of humanization and liberation. #queerC2E2
It is essential that queer comics celebrate queerness beyond white cis gay men. Need stories that are central, not tragic, and not side characters helping someone else’s story grow. #queerC2E2
The first queer comic characters I can recall encountering was definitely through manga/anime ... Nuriko from Fushigi Yuugi was pretty formative. (The #queerC2E2 panel is great so far, btw, anyone who isn’t here is missing out.)
