#Belief is not a crime. Prayer is not a crime. #PoliticalDisagreement is not a crime. Saying you think the #government has grown too powerful is not a crime. #QuotingScripture is not a crime. Warning about #surveillance, forced identification systems, or the #abuse of process is not, by itself, a crime. In the United #States, the First Amendment #protects speech, religion, assembly, and the #right to petition. The Fourth and Fifth #Amendments protect people from #unreasonable seizure and from being punished without due #process. The Fourteenth Amendment #requires equal protection of the laws. None of that is optional because someone in #authority finds a belief #inconvenient. I am asking for a #bright line that every peace officer already knows in #training: arrest requires probable cause of a crime. A crime is a specific offense defined by statute—an act, an attempt, a threat that meets the #legal elements. A worldview is not an #element. A conspiracy theory is not an element. A sermon is not an element. A blog post, a letter, a #protest sign, or an unpopular religious #claim is not an element. If there is no probable cause that a person committed a #ChargeableOffense, there is no lawful basis to take that person into custody “for their own good,” “#BecauseTheySoundExtreme,” or “because we need to #ShutThisDown.” I am also asking that mental-health language not be used as a shortcut around the Constitution. #History is full of governments that labeled dissenters #unstable so they would not have to answer the dissent. That is a real abuse, and it has happened in real countries. It is also true that some people are #genuinely ill and need care. Both things can be #true at once. The lawful test is still the same: danger #PlusLegalCriteria, or a #CrimePlusProbableCause—not “I dislike what you believe.” Sound mind is not proved by agreeing with the #majority. Scripture I will stand on: “Do #justice, love #mercy, and walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8). “#TheLordDetestsDishonestScales” (Proverbs 11:1). “You shall not bear false witness” (Exodus 20:16). And this, which cuts against vigilantes as much as against #tyrants: “All who take the sword will #perish by the sword” (Matthew 26:52). That is not a call to arms. It is a warning that #violence begets violence, and that people who #claim God while breaking the law are not defending the Holy Spirit. They are using His #name. I reject smear #campaigns and false allegations as a method of #control. If someone has evidence of a crime, take it to a prosecutor and prove it in #court. If they do not, they should not invent a #narrative, leak it, or pressure a lockup to make the narrative look true after the fact. A free people can survive ugly #speech. They cannot survive a habit of arresting the speaker and calling it #PublicSafety. I also #reject the idea that power exists to build a private #dynasty over other people’s bodies, papers, movements, or souls. Government has a legitimate #job: keep the peace, punish actual crimes, and #leave the rest to the citizen. When identification #systems, surveillance, or medical programs are proposed, they should be debated in public, limited by #law, and subject to warrants and consent—not #imposed as a loyalty test. I do not accept the claim that every new #tracking tool is automatically salvation.
