🚀 Big Move for Indian Corporate Finance!
The Reserve Bank of India (#RBI) has officially finalised its new Capital Market Exposure (CME) framework, #RBICIRCULAR set to take effect from April 1, 2026.
Key Highlights:
1. Acquisition Finance: Banks can now fund up to 75% of a deal's value (acquirers must bring 25% equity).
2. Exposure Limits: Aggregate CME is capped at 40% of Tier 1 capital, with acquisition finance and direct exposure each capped at 20%.
3. Retail Lending: Individual loan limits against shares have been increased from ₹20 lakh to ₹1 crore.
4. Broker Funding: All credit to stockbrokers must now be 100% secured, with no bank funding permitted for proprietary trading.
#RBICIRCULAR My take:
Liquidity is not simply increased and not simply reduced.
It is made more structured.
Retail side improves.
Banks now have clear rules to give loans against shares, mutual funds and ETFs.
Investors can use their holdings to raise money more easily.
This is controlled liquidity growth.
Broker side tightens.
Bank funded proprietary trading is restricted.
Collateral rules are stricter.
Monitoring is tighter.
High leverage activity reduces.
Market impact:
Short term liquidity may look slightly better because retail access improves.
Medium term the system becomes more disciplined and risky leverage reduces.
So the right summary:
Retail liquidity increases.
Speculative leverage decreases.
System becomes safer.
This is not easy money.
It is controlled money.
Trend will not change because of this.
