🥐 Next up on my summer #romcomathon is another movie by the fabulous writer director Nancy Meyers. IT'S COMPLICATED (2009) follows her popular SOMTHING'S GOTTA GIVE (2003) with many of the same themes of a divorced woman in her prime who experiences a new love, but is complicated by the former one. This movie is also set in a coastal town, features an incredible home, populated with great actors, and even more fabulous plot and laugh lines. My summer #romcomathon continues with SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE (2003), staring Jack Nicholson & Diane Keaton. Set in New York City & the Hamptons, Nicholson is funny, yes funny, as an aging playboy/womanizer who falls for the mother of his latest girlfriend, and Keaton is brilliant as a divorced playwright in her prime who has raised her kids and given up on love. Just think of The Man Who Came to Dinner (1942) meets Woody Allan. ❤️ Written and directed by the brilliant Nancy Meyers, the music, locations, cast, and LOL scenes are only surpassed by the heartfelt and satisfying ending in Paris. ⭐ 5 STARS for me. The weekend is here and it's time for another movie recommendation for my #romcomathon. I decided to continue the Australian film theme after enjoying STRICTLY BALLROOM last week and watch the quirky, cheeky, and irreverent MURIEL'S WEDDING (1994). This is not your typical #romcom, so be prepared for an unstoppable heroine who is a liar and a thief; in fact her sister calls her "terrible" for good reason. I won't spoil the plot for you, but share that she goes through a big character arc that is worth waiting for. Actresses Toni Collette is perfect as Muriel/Mariel and Rachel Griffiths as her friend Rhonda is outstanding. The 3rd main character is the music by ABBA which I understand introduced a whole new generation to the Swedish pop/dance band and reminded many of us why it is so much fun. Join me every Friday for my summer movie #romcomathon. The 1990s & 2000s were the Golden Age of #romcoms. I am revisiting many of my favorites. This weekend I am watching YEAR OF THE COMET (1992) starring Penelope Ann Miller, Tim Daly, and Louis Jourdan in his final film role. The amazing production team includes director Peter Yates, screenwriter William Goldman, and beautiful Scottish scenery. PLOT: An extremely rare bottle of wine (bottled during the appearance of the Great Comet of 1811) is discovered. Margaret Harwood is sent to retrieve it so it can be sold at auction. Oliver Plexico is assigned as her travel guide/bodyguard for the trip. However, other people desperately want the bottle and will stop at nothing to get it. A simple little trip becomes an international chase. It is available to stream on Amazon Video, or free on @Tubi in the US. Wine, Scotland, adventure, comedy, and romance. Can't read any romance book this week because #romcomathon is next week. Can't read any Irish authors this month cos the Irish readathon is next month. It's like that whole thing of "I have an appointment at 3pm so I can't do anything for the whole day or I'll miss it."
