Oversimplifying to the cynical level: in order to have the change we want in academia, all we need is widespread altruism among researchers.

Nosek on registered reports - simply moving peer review from after write up of reports to before data collection dramatically changes incentives for authors and peer reviewers. And we see much less publication bias, reflecting reality - AND citations may increase!
