Finally, started with installing #JRuby 10 & running Hello World before trying other things in the next few weeks. If you've wanted to experiment, here's a simple illustrated guide to get it running and the first steps:

If you're waiting to try #Ruby 3.4 on #Windows, the RubyInstaller is now available.
I also created my illustrated guide to installing it: https://t.co/an7rEeJQSA
Happy New Year!

I recently published the illustrated guide to installing #JRuby on #Windows using JRuby 9.4.6.0 but all the steps will apply to 9.4.7 as well:

Also if you're wondering why JRuby, see: https://t.co/zgpI7SteAS

JRuby 9.4.7.0 is released! This time we’ve fixed a bunch of language edge cases and made many quality-of-life improvements across the board. Upgrading is recommended!

@dhh @samcraigjohnson I'd recommend it for Ruby (I do a lot with #RubyOnWindows) & do file the occasional Rails inconsistency on Windows (incl. 1 more coming soon) but yes, I'd develop Rails on Windows, but not deploy.
Ruby on Windows is slower than others (due to file I/O) but still very good!
Thanks to the #RubyInstaller team, #Ruby 3.3 is already available on Windows. My illustrated guide to installing and running #RubyOnWindows is updated and available at: https://t.co/Eq5OVIjh1u

#Rails 7.1 is out! I always like to check if it still works on #Windows. Thanks to the stellar work by the @rails, @rubylangorg
& @jruby teams, Rails 7.1 works fine on #Ruby 3.2 on Windows.
Btw, this post also resulted in 1 issue & 1PR.

@andatki What is the exact problem/ concern?
Rails mostly works.
For PG, somehow, this is the most popular post on my blog: https://t.co/j3bSlUpLKC
I've been meaning to write one for a newer version.
I'm happy to try to help (no book needed) cos I still use #RubyOnWindows
@GregMolnar thanks for doing this. I know that Ruby is at 3.2 but I like to use 3.1 as the oldest version that I play with and then use 3.2 to see if it all works.
As for slowness, very likely, it's because I'm running #RubyOnWindows - but was just surprised how fast 1.9 started up!
On #ruby30th, I'm delighted I discovered it & grew to really like it - back in 2005.
Now, I wish it continues to grow, and stays alive in all its forms including #RubyOnWindows and #JRuby.
Also, I hope to keep creating useful content for Ruby devs.
Thank you @yukihiro_matz
@avdi @MartoutaTech I totally understand that, and I know your involvement 👍 esp even as a subscriber to graceful.
I don't mind that Rails runs better on WSL, but I really want #RubyOnWindows to _stay_ a thing.
Want to learn more than you expected about how #ruby loads a native gem? Part 2 of my "Learning by Reversing a Native Gem" is now available and includes this (IMO) fantastic sequence diagram!

Part 1 of my new "Learning by Reversing" series explains how a native gem looks in #ruby. It covers the background to the gem we explore. From Part 2, we'll look at how the bits hold together.

@RubyWorldConf @tenderlove So good and happy for both 👍
Delighted to see Lars recognised - his work is so important to the #RubyOnWindows community.
As the weekend approaches, the excitement that comes from:
$ bundle init
(edit Gemfile to add RSpec)
$ bundle install
$ bundle exec rspec --init
Excited to try testing non-Ruby executables with #RSpec.

@postmodern_mod3 @CrystalLanguage For all the heat and lack of love that #Windows sometimes gets, it's interesting to see that it retains a lead as primary dev OS - probably support/cost drives that?
Makes me more determined to find & write out about #RubyOnWindows - https://t.co/qEJ3KvESRb
My first blog post of 2021 is about getting #ruby running on #Windows (with pictures!) so that you can try #ruby3 features. Hopefully, the first of a few posts on using #RubyOnWindows
