Nobody should use abusive language in public life, that’s a given. But why this special emphasis on “daughters”? Why is it that “betiyan” are expected to maintain the highest standards of decency, and all the onus is on them? And them behaving in a certain way comes as a ‘culture shock’? While we hope that the forgiveness of #NarendraModi will close the #RuchikaSingh chapter in specific, but I see a strange general development that we are ignoring completely.
Where are the parents of all these kids जो भावनाओं में बह गए and flow flow में spoke things that have shocked us, especially the boomer and millennial parents (who were not aware of what their kids were doing when they locked their room doors instead of going out to play in the backyard)?
I see young Ruchikaji age ranging from 15 (as per her?) to 25 (as per #MahuaMoitra ?) apologising and I see #NaMo following the gujarati proverb of “છોરું કછોરું થાય પણ માવતરથી કમાવતર ન થવાય” (loosely translated as “the child can be ill-brought up, ut the parents don’t have that option”). But, were they the only two stakeholders with the skin in the game?
Does it close the matter if the abusive minor is forgiven by the abused elder?
Legally speaking, in case of any misdemeanour of a minor, the vicarious liability sticks to the parent (and that is why when a minor causes a car accident, the parents face legal action).
Though no idea about the private universe of #AbhijeetDipke, #SauravDas, #VijetaDahiya, or #AshutoshRanka, a lot of us grew up in a world where “call your parents” or “I will tell your father” was a universal and effective threat.
What suddenly happened!!
As we see no real reference to the parents, it is a telling sign.
This generation of parents is probably the first generation in the history of humanity that is scared of its kids, and has accepted that the world where they kids live is beyond their ability to comprehend.
The absence of parents from this debate is not caused by apathy of the parents. It is caused by fear that parents are feeling.
This fear is not imaginary, as it also made very real by kids who are ready to call the parents and their generation stupid and failed.
The parents fearing the abuse are avoiding any kind of confrontation so sharing of generational wisdom is completely out of question.
We now have a new generation that feels that there is nothing to learn from the fifty-sixty years of real life experience of their parents, and parents too know it.
This is an unprecedented situation with no parallel in history of humanity.
We have a generation starting afresh, using their imagination as real life experience and forging new wisdom.
God save our kids.
