@S2_Breakthrough A8. Stop rushing the journey. It’s always a race to something bigger and better. Our athletes should be able to use sport as a way to find who they are, what they love & what it feels like to thrive. Sometimes I think sports are becoming the opposite for our Gen Z kids. #S2Chat

@S2_Breakthrough A8. I think we should ask them! But I definitely think it's going to involve getting rid of the notion that tradition overrules everything. If we stick with that, I think sport participation is going to decline and I think that would be a tragedy! #S2Chat

@S2_Breakthrough It doesn’t mean you’re easy on them. The game itself is hard. Teach them to embrace the hard. But also teach them to embrace themselves. That’s ultimately how we all plow through hurdles and learn to thrive. #s2Chat

@S2_Breakthrough A7. When I started coaching, I took the same approach that my own coaches took. Lay down the law and expect everyone to passionately get in line... or get pissed at them. Spoiler alert: Not a good approach for Gen Z athletes. #S2Chat

@S2_Breakthrough A7. I am a geriatric *GASP* millennial. Facebook started when I was in college. Because of that I was WAY more sheltered when I was the same age as my athletes. I forget how much they are exposed to at their age and how stressful that must be... #S2Chat

@S2_Breakthrough The way my coaches conveyed information and the way I have to relay information is completely different with 90% of the gen z athletes... bridging the gap is the toughest part by far #s2chat

@ashtsunshine @S2_Breakthrough This is where I think “realist” comes from. Theres a disconnect b/w a generation like ours that tends toward idealist and Gen Z who has had access to so much info so fast. We don’t let them fail because we’re scared for them, but they know reality. Shuts them down. #s2chat

@S2_Breakthrough A6. Don’t force the technology out of their hands. Teach them to harness it in positive ways. Raise the bar, expect them to rise to it. Encourage risk tasking and learning from failure. #S2Chat

@S2_Breakthrough A6. Find ways to communicate quickly and visually, do not cut out their parents, knowing they have so much access to so much information give them freedom to lead just as much as follow. (All things I am very much still working on) #s2chat
