Our stand as the @UGMParty against the encroachment of Nairobi National Park has been vindicated.
The courts have now ordered a halt to all further works inside the Park until 30th July, alongside a joint site inspection with a report due ahead of the 23rd July hearing.
This is a victory for the thousands of ordinary Kenyans who stood up, not politicians, not the powerful, but citizens who refused to look away.
But the fight is not over.
The works are only paused. We stay vigilant until Nairobi National Park is fully protected.

THE DESTRUCTION HAS BEEN PAUSED. For now.
Today, the Court ordered that no further works should continue inside Nairobi National Park until 30 July 2026 when the matter is next heard in court.
The Court has also directed that the parties jointly visit the site before then, with a report to be filed ahead of the next court date.
This is an important moment, not because the fight is over, but because Nairobi National Park has been given some time. In this time, we have to do all we can to make sure the Courts see that the people of Kenya are against the construction in NNP.
It’s a small win but a win nonetheless. And before we continue the fight, breathe in the moment that belongs to everyone who signed the petition, shared a post, commented, donated their time and skill, volunteered in many ways.
You are actively reminding the country that Nairobi National Park is worth defending.

Why Save Nairobi National Park campaign is a roaring success …
4,642 Kenyans petitioned the Environment and Land Court in Kajiado, under “Save Nairobi National Park” (#SaveNNP).
They seek to stop relocation of the Nairobi Animal Orphanage into the park.
Also want to halt a 1,300-vehicle parking facility, access road, and pedestrian bridge linking to Bomas International Convention Centre (BICC).
Claim these projects lack mandatory approvals, public participation, and parliamentary approval.
Respondents: Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), NEMA, Cabinet Secretaries for Tourism/Wildlife and Environment, Kenya Forest Service (KFS), Bomas of Kenya Ltd, Nairobi County Government, and Attorney General.
Friends of Nairobi National Park listed as interested party.
Park background: gazetted in 1946, Kenya’s first national park, 117 km², only fully protected park in a capital city; also a rhino sanctuary and Important Bird Area.
Petitioners say parking facility alone would consume ~8 acres of open grassland, causing irreversible ecological damage.
Argue project documents contain contradictory figures on size (26–90 acres), cost, and fencing length — undermining EIA credibility.
Claim pedestrian bridge and orphanage relocation should have separate EIAs, not be bundled to avoid scrutiny.
Allege construction (tree felling, excavation) began March 2026 — before approvals were secured.
Say EIA report/licences weren’t made public until 2+ months after approval, despite requests.
Argue disputed site has indigenous forest, wetlands, and habitat for lions, leopards, black rhinos, cheetahs, hyenas.
Warn project would eliminate habitat and introduce noise, lighting, pollution, human activity into a sensitive ecological zone.

Following the arrest of Chief Justice Emeritus David Maraga and fellow environmental activists earlier today, I joined members of the LSK Council and other volunteers at Lang’ata Police Station to personally enforce our legal defense machinery.
I am pleased to confirm that, through the efforts of the LSK legal team and our partners, the activists arrested alongside the CJ Emeritus @dkmaraga have since been released on free bond.
The @LawSocietyofKe remains steadfast in defending constitutional freedoms, protecting civic space and ensuring that no Kenyan is subjected to unlawful or arbitrary deprivation of liberty for peacefully exercising constitutional rights.
Today, Kenyans, environmental defenders, and human rights activists came together to stand for #NairobiNationalPark to demand transparency and accountability!
