Meet Mittali Sethi, a Maharashtra-cadre IAS officer, who recently made waves for doing something many admire but few act on. Mittali has 𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻𝘄𝗮𝗱𝗶 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 in Nandurbar, where she currently serves as the District Collector. Explaining her decision, she said, “If we want our 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲, we must trust them first.” She also shared that this step will help her 𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁-𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 of what needs to be improved in other Anganwadis across the district. Her decision has sparked nationwide appreciation, reminding us of what Mittali, once a dentist, chose years ago: to leave a comfortable career and serve the public. After multiple attempts, she cracked the UPSC exam (AIR 56), and today, she’s working to improve education and health facilities in the tribal areas of Maharashtra. If we want stories like hers to 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗺, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, we must amplify and celebrate such examples. -------------------------------------- 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘁 has often said: “Seeing people and following their lives is not harmful, provided you have the right people to look up to. The real danger is when the wrong ones become your 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀.” Unfortunately, many of those celebrated as “influencers” today are intrinsically very worthless. Yet, they are the ones shaping young minds, and that’s where the real problem lies.
