Nine years ago today, on September 30, 2017, Navy SEAL CDR Seth "Stoner" Stone was killed in a parachuting accident at age 41. The Naval Special Warfare community lost one of its best. Seth was a Houston-born Naval Academy grad, two-time Silver Star recipient, and one of the most respected combat leaders in the SEAL teams. As platoon commander of Delta Platoon, SEAL Team Three, Task Unit Bruiser, he led his men through some of the hardest urban fighting of the Iraq War in Ramadi in 2006, working alongside Army, Marines, and Iraqi partners to help turn one of the country’s most violent cities. He later returned to lead a task unit that included Chris Kyle during operations in Sadr City. Humble, funny, deeply faithful, and fiercely dedicated to his teammates, he never sought the spotlight even after earning some of the Navy’s highest awards for valor. His teammates, family, and everyone who served with him still speak of a leader who put the mission and his people first, who inspired those around him in the worst conditions, and who lived with quiet strength and purpose. Rest easy, Seth. Never forgotten 🔱
