@MBrameshuber @Thorlabs If you aim to quantify the collimation properly, you would be better off with a wavefront sensor - Also, for the #shearplate to work the best, it requires minimal wavefront errors; maybe your gas laser's wavefront wasn't that perfect - But excellent that you found a solution 😀

.@AndrewGYork we should do the experiment we talked about - distance vs #shearplate

During microscope 🔬 #alignment procedures, one of my favorite tools is the #shearplate 🔧❤️😀 - It helps you to quickly & reliably assess if your coherent beam is collimated. Recently, @Thorlabs published a tutorial about it. Check it out 👉 https://t.co/0qwtNJQa7f

During microscope 🔬 #alignment procedures, one of my favorite tools is the #shearplate 🔧❤️😀 - It helps you to quickly & reliably assess if your coherent beam is collimated. Furthermore, it’s also sensitive to spherical #aberration, coma, and #astigmatism 💪 #qualitycontrol
