Followed recently in stores for 2 very different reasons. 1st was dude eagle-eyeing me like I was a thief. Today a lady, clearly fascinated by me, desperately needed to tell me about her childhood Navajo friend. Noticed the 3rd time she passed me. Bruh. #ShoppingWhileIndigenous

As a kid in Phoenix, AZ, white female cashiers acted like they couldn’t see my mom. By the 90’s it didn’t happen much. 2022 Vancouver WA, happens almost every time - white female cashiers will not look me in the eye. #shoppingwhilebrown #shoppingwhileindigenous

#ShoppingWhileIndigenous is always interesting when white women are working. You either get ignored, saw two cashiers actually make eye contact and slow down to see which one would be stuck with me. Or you get the constant condescending assistance where they won't let you shop

Continuing with the theme of #ShoppingWhileIndigenous or #ShoppingWhileBrown The Shopper's Drug Mart at Spadina and Bloor has notoriously bad floor walkers. The Native Canadian Centre Of Toronto is up the road. Pretty much every Neechie has a story of being followed in that store

These things are very real. In 2019 I got KICKED OUT of @SafewayCanada . I was looking for an oven pan & when I asked the security guard why he wouldn’t stop (very obviously) following me he said I could “get out if I don’t like being followed” #shoppingwhileindigenous

@Terrilltf My dad is full treaty, and so many times we've had employees follow us around stores and such! It's ridiculous! Like one kept asking if we needed help every 5 minutes 🙄

Michael's is a store i like to go to. It is also the store i go into without a purse/bag of ANY sort, and preferably without clothes with large pockets. #ShoppingWhileIndigenous and i'm #IndigenousEveryDay

Next time I get followed around the store I will be getting them to carry the cart. AND! they will be enduring a min. of 10 min. looking at ea item. Me: so do you think 5g of sugar per serving is too much? #ShoppingWhileIndigenous #HeckTheyreWithMeAnyway
