This week my #Sidebook was The Maccabees by Moshe Pearlman. Getting into the holiday spirit, this book weaves various accounts & quite a bit of literary license to build a narrative of the Chanukah story. As a scholar I know some facts are wrong but an enjoyable read throughout.

My #SideBook this week was Aliya by @liel Leibowitz. A multigenerational look at why American Jews move to Israel, the book traces 3 stories, among the story of our people. Liel concludes that Aliya can't be described in words & this heartwarming book is much the same. Read it.

My #SideBook this week was Elliot Rosenberg's hilarious answer the his grandfather's (& my Bubby's life long question). While I didn't agree with every answer, & I wish there was a rating system, this list of historical figures & their relationship with the Jews was wonderful.

My #Sidebook this week was @LizaWiemer's teen novel involving Holocaust Education. A teacher's questionable lesson, conflates the Holocaust with current events & troubles many students. Funny enough, the book does much the same. At least I can say I understand the assignment.

My #Sidebook this week was "Assassin's of Memory". These gripping essays lay to bare many of the reasonings of both deniers like Chomsky, Abu Mazen & Faurisson, as well as Holocaust Distorters like Bryan M Rigg, @AOC, @RashidaTlaib & many libertarians. Memory needs defenders.

This week my #SideBook was The Messiah Problem by R Chaim Rapaport. It was not only a remarkable look into the history of Jewish belief & faith in Moshiach, but also a window into the dangers of bigotry & senseless hate, & how is closes the mind and soul. We Want Moshiach Now!

My #SideBook this Shabbos: A better title would have been "appropriation of Jewish mysticism by those with no understanding, & written with little understanding". While the book left a lot to be desired, it's interesting to know how obsessed the founding fathers were with us.

By #SideBook this week was "Israel" by @noatishby. A highly irreverent @ often entertaining look at Israel's history, & how she tells her story to the world. Deeply Personal vet informative, the book was marred by attacks on religious Jews. Thanks @AZM4Israel for the gift!

My #SideBook the week was "The Search for Israel" by Michael Brenner. While containing a greater array of information, the book has a deep perspective on historical Zionism, with little perspective on historical Judaism. Chapter 1 was 3 prewar perspectives. religion wasn't one.

My #Sidebook this week was Sin*a*gogue by @DBashIdeas, a rare & striking look at Judaism's view on sin, that jumps with ease from pop culture to Pumpidisa, & from Luzzatto to literature. I wish it added Bosi Legani in Ch 2, but a page-turner & academic work not to be missed.

My #SideBook this week was rereading "I didn't ask to be in this family" by Rabbi Dr Avraham Twerski. This book began my love of Rabbi Twerski, Charles Schultz, and reading! I was reading the book again, but for the 1st time as a dad, and its a whole new read. BDE #SelfEsteem

My #SideBook this week was "Europe Against the Jews" by Germany's foremost historian Aly Gotz. It did not disappoint. A step by step guide to the inherent #antisemitism in ultra-nationalism & socialism, and a lesson not only about Europe's past but about it's present.
