Visible exchange float” is the #silverinventory reported on the exchange (SGE/SHFE) — metal that’s readily available for delivery, settlement, and arbitrage. As long as that price-setting pool is deep enough, the paper market (futures/ETFs) stays calm: spreads behave, delivery can be sourced, and “availability risk” doesn’t dominate pricing. But when the float gets thin, even a small demand shock can trigger spiking premiums, widening/unstable spreads, poorer liquidity, and higher volatility — because paper suddenly runs into the hard limit of physical metal.
