#PowellCounty (Clay City) has the #4 highest overdose rate in #Kentucky. Still, they do not qualify for additional ambulatory services because of certificate of need requirements.
So what's our situation and #ASAP discussion? How do we cope and adjust overstrain existing services to cover healthcare deserts created by certificate of need in rural Kentucky.
🚨 Why can’t rural Kentuckians get an ambulance when seconds count?
Because in Kentucky, even ambulances need a government permission slip to operate. That’s right. Under Certificate of Need laws, existing providers can block new competition.
It’s time to repeal CON for EMS. Lives depend on it.
