I was in too much aww to photo most of it, and it was so fast, but I really enjoyed @OhioHistory Brad Lepper's presentation about working together to speculate about 5 black orbs that definitely weren't marbles!

And oral histories conducted & shared online too! #soaam23
Oooh Black History Archives Day - scan community items, hand back immediately, sign release forms, and share online. Yes! #soaam23
TFW you were sharing the stories of the same five people for black history and folks call you on it (hint: you start doing better - yay!)

Learning about a very cool virtual programming/ interview project to share black heritage stories & photos at @columbuslibrary

My POV- there are para jobs requiring masters degrees, director level positions that don’t include benefits, etc. IMO, this is why we can’t advance as a profession because we are diluting the value of our job. #soaam23
It takes all of us- archivists, memory workers, historians, storytellers, everybody! - to work together to help the voices caught in the archival silences. Let’s not lose more of their stories. #soaam23
This data shows that we are requiring things (eg MLIS) that may not actually be benefitting us. Are we pricing ourselves out of our own jobs? Speaker Flynn and coauthor (also Flynn) are looking at interpreting this data. ACENSUS only reports from 30+ states, not all. #soaam23
To be clear, the speaker didn't say this, but I think I will: Archivist salaries are sucky. Especially in Ohio. (Big shock, I know.)

I’ve been so excited to listen to the afternoon keynote speaker, and my friend, Rosemary Pleva Flynn that I have forgotten to tweet! She has been talking about the importance of her father’s storytelling in her and her children’s lives. #soaam23
For some reason, at first I read this as "Amy kicking butt," but...I mean, still true. #soaam23
+ allow yourself Grace when there are failures. It’s ok. // Panelist K. H. - and just recognize that if there is negative opposition, sometimes it’s THEIR problem not yours. // C.M. - if there is constant opposition, then sometimes leaving is the right way out. #soaam23
Audience Q; how do we overcome the obstacle of constantly seeing negative results to our advocacy attempts? S.A.: Panel wanted to pick stories that ended on a good note, but recognizes that advocacy has ongoing challenges. How do you cope? Find support, med team + #soaam23
Audience Q for panelist C. M.: how was her relationship with the direct super who didn’t advocate for her? A: supervisor was encouraging HER to advocate for herself, but couldn’t herself. The relationship wasn’t ruined and they stayed close friends. #soaam23
Panelist S.A.: drawing conscious boundaries is important, like only having work contact her during leave if there is a major disaster. #soaam23
Audience member- taking care of yourself also means being able to be your best version of yourself, which includes being a better collaborator with your organization. Mental health days = sick days and your org should recognize that. #soaam23

Can I just say, I was not expecting to almost cry in any of these sessions today, let alone all of them so far? 🥹
