I'm now on the Montreux-Zweiswimmen line, part of the Golden Pass route to Lucerne. You have to pay an extra supplement to sit in the best places, but even the normal coaches are nice. #springoftrains

Eleven days ago, I left from Waterloo. I travelled through Portsmouth, Paris, Vichy, Marseille, Genoa, Andermatt, Chur, Stuttgart, Cheb, Prague, Cieszyn, Kosice and Chop to Mukachevo. I came back through Budapest, Munich, Leipzig, Berlin and Cologne to St Pancras. #springoftrains

Today is my #finalday of #springoftrains There's a few routes I can take from Leipzig to my Eurostar from Brussels this evening; I opted to go via Berlin, thus completing my journey from Munich to Berlin and also visiting a favourite city, however briefly. Delayed ICE1 arrives:

So, yesterday on #dayten of #springoftrains, I travelled from Munich to Leipzig, visiting Bamberg, Weimar, Erfurt, Leipzig and Dresden, for about an hour apiece. Here's the highlights: first, the places Bamberg. Lovely, very German looking, can see why it's on the tourist trail!

#daynine of #springoftrains Today's destination is Munich. That's a single train taking maybe 6-7 hours. As this is me, I'm not doing that in one go! Kelenfold (new/old), with a MAV commuter train, manufactured by Stadler (Their first UK train will soon start on Greater Anglia)

Mukachevo is the furthest east I'll go on this trip: from London to here via Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Genoa, Chur, Stuttgart, Prague, Cieszyn, Kosice and Chop; without a high speed train. You can even stitch on my Ireland trip - Tralee to Mukachevo. Neat. #springoftrains

Obviously yet again that's meant to be #springoftrains Here, have a video of that shunt, with embarrassingly high pitched surprise from me about the dimensions of the carriages.

And here's the pretty centre of Cieszyn, plus its station (whose trains were incredibly poorly timed to connect with anything I might have used; including missing the following day's train by 2 minutes!). And then I went to my hotel. End of #daysix #springoftrains

The station is a funny mix of a newer concourse at a low level and then a very old train shed and entrance hall above. Tram to hotel. Me to bed. End of #dayfive (Cherbourg feels like ages ago!) #springoftrains

Right, let's see if I can keep this updated as I go. Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof. I've got two and a half hours in this city. Let's see what I find. #springoftrains Also: hello to all my new followers. Good luck with how long this thread is!

Time for #dayfive of #springoftrains. This morning, I took the metre gauge train from Chur West (near my pyramid hotel) one stop to Chur, before taking an Intercity to Zurich. Next destination: Prague, Czechia (via Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Cheb). This will take a while!
