¡Buenos días, my friends
Cup’☕️ ’Joe in hand, welcome to a # FreakFlagFly'nFriday with the #StokeLevelSolid right at a clean 14.2. Station obs show South Lake Tahoe sitting at 46º at 0415, Truckee clear at 45º, and mid-lake buoy air reading 58º. Down at CRM, #BigBlue is executing a pristine #FlatAssCalm start with zero sentients on the water at this time. The Tahoe City gauge is standing steady at 6,228.29ft, and water temperatures have climbed to an epic new season high of 68.5º. Get up, grab'a Cup'☕️' Joe, get out, and get'cha some today, my friends.
The Forecast: Sunshine rules the basin with a lake-level high near 81º today. Early morning glass holds wide open for paddling, wake surfing, and tow-foiling, but the wind engine kicks on after lunch. The NWS calls for southwest winds building to 10–15mph on the open lake this afternoon, with Buoy East pushing gusts to 13 mph between 1800 and 2000, standing up 1 to 2 foot waves. Tonight drops down to a clear, crisp 48º.
Ridge Control & The Week Ahead: The board remains 100% dry inside the basin with zero marine advisories on the water, but we'll turn up the volume on the wind and fire awareness. A Red Flag Warning is active east and north of the basin from 1300 today through Saturday at 2100, with humidity dropping into the teens. Winds crank up further on Saturday with gusts pushing 25mph, keeping our fire watch extremely elevated across the region. Highs ease into the upper 70s through the weekend under wide-open skies.
Gonzo Wisdom: "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!" — Hunter S. Thompson, The Proud Highway.
This cuts straight through the noise with raw, unfiltered truth, my friends. We aren't out here in the Sierra to tiptoe through existence or save our gear for a rainy day. Lay it all on the line, pin the throttle, charge every line, and milk every last second of daylight on this mountain and on this lake. When the ride finally closes, make sure you leave nothing on the table. Master your own mind, keep your #FreakFlagFly’n, and radiate deep love and kindness to every single sentient you cross paths with today.

¡Buenos días, my friends
Cup’☕️' Joe in hand, #StokeLevelSolid on this beautiful Friday morning. The holiday weekend is officially here, the sun is shining, and Big Blue is rolling out the welcome mat. The water temperature at the mid-lake buoys has nudged up to a refreshing 60.8º degrees, and the lake level at Tahoe City is holding sweet at 6,228.33 feet. It is a beautiful day to be alive, to breathe, and to look out for one another.
The Forecast: The Holiday Flex
Mother Nature is turning up the summer heat. Today we are looking at sunny skies with lake-level highs reaching 73º to 79º, dropping to a clear low tonight between 40º and 50º.
For Independence Day tomorrow, expect pure sunshine with highs in the 76 ° to 82 ° range. The high country ridge is building, bringing a minor HeatRisk to our Sierra communities, so make sure you stay hydrated and keep your crew cool.
Surf and Sail: Morning Glass, Afternoon Breezes. For the sailors, paddlers, and harbor teams out at Camp Rich, early birds get the best of the lake. Morning winds are light today and tomorrow with wave heights under 1 foot—absolute pristine glass for early shuttle runs and mooring transfers.
By midday today, those typical summertime thermal breezes will pick up. Expect afternoon gusts of 20 to 30 mph over the weekend, turning the lake surface choppy and lively after lunch. Sunday and Monday will bring an extra kick as a weak low pivots in, keeping those afternoon gusts pushing hard at 25 to 30 mph. Keep your line handling sharp and your guest vessels secure.
Tactical Awareness: Sky Watch and Fire Sense: Warm surface temperatures are keeping a 10 to 20 percent chance of isolated showers or a rogue thunderstorm popping along the crest each afternoon through Monday, especially after 2 PM. Keep an eye on those vertical cumulus buildups. If you see the sky darkening, don't bargain with lightning—adjust your course early.
With the heat rising and the afternoon breezes kicking, the regional fuels are bone-dry. Fire danger is high this weekend. Leave the fireworks to the professionals and keep your fire sense completely dialed.
“Something is lacking. As one of the seven billion human beings, I believe everyone has the responsibility to develop a happier world. We need, ultimately, to have a greater concern for others’ well-being. In other words, kindness or compassion, which is lacking now. We must pay more attention to our inner values. We must look inside.” ― Dalai Lama XIV, The Book of Joy
Take a second out there today to look inside, show some extra compassion to the holiday crowds, and look out for your teammates on the docks.

¡Buenos días, my friends
Cup’📷 ’Joe in hand, #StokeLevelSolid. Time to shake off the slumber because Big Blue is calling. The lake level is holding beautiful at 6,228.35 feet, and that mid-lake water temperature is a refreshing 60.4 degrees. The table is set for an epic holiday run, so let's get out and get'cha some.
The Forecast: The Rise of Summer: Today, we are looking at partly cloudy skies, with morning clouds clearing, with highs reaching 66 to 71 degrees at lake level. Tonight drops down to a clear low between 39 and 49 degrees. Friday brings pure, unfiltered sunshine with highs jumping up to 70 to 75 degrees. Hold on to your hats, because by the weekend the ridge flexes hard, pushing us into the mid-80s to near 90 across the Sierra valleys.
Surf and Sail: Catch the Glass: Early birds get the glass. Morning winds are light today and Friday, keeping wave heights under 1 foot—perfect for an early paddle, a smooth sail, or dialing in the moorings. By midday today, the afternoon west winds kick up to 10 mph.
Keep your head on a swivel as the weekend approaches. Those afternoon thermal breezes will start hammering at 20 to 25 mph, then bump up to 25 to 30 mph by Sunday and Monday. Secure your lines, watch the chop, and enjoy the ride.
Tactical Awareness: Keep a weather eye on the sky for afternoon cumulus buildups over the crest. There is a low-end, under-10-percent chance of a rogue shower or thunderstorm cell popping up. More importantly, things are bone-dry out there, and those weekend gusts mean fire danger is real. Leave the fireworks to the pros and keep your fire sense completely locked down.
“If a problem is fixable, if a situation is such that you can do something about it, then there is no need to worry. If it's not fixable, then there is no help in worrying. There is no benefit in worrying whatsoever.”

No use stressing over the small stuff, my friends. Control what you can, handle your lines, and let the rest go.

¡Buenos días, my friends!
Cup’☕️ ‘Joe in hand, #StokeLevelSolid. We have officially crossed the threshold into July, and the Sierra is shaking off the late spring chill. We are easing right into that classic Goldilocks phase of the Tahoe summer. The morning air is crisp, the water temperature at the mid-lake buoys is steady at 60.5º, and the lake level is holding strong at 6,228.37 feet. It is a spectacular day to be upright, breathing, and dialed in.
The Forecast: The Great Warming
Mother Nature is hitting the gradual acceleration button this week. The high-altitude trough that has been keeping our temperatures modest is beginning to lift and broaden eastward, putting us on a steady, deliberate climb toward the holiday weekend.
Today and tomorrow, expect beautiful, sunny conditions with daytime highs peaking around 74°F. We are looking at light morning glass out on the lake, with the typical afternoon west winds kicking up to around 5 to 10 mph.
As we roll toward Independence Day, the high-pressure ridge begins its true flex, pushing our afternoon temperatures all the way up to a high of 84º to 85º. The valleys are going to bake, the high country is going to warm up, and we are looking at a proper, high-volume Sierra summer stretch.
Tactical Awareness: While the mountain vibes are pristine, our fire danger is ramping up quickly. The regional fuels are dry, and those daily afternoon lake gusts will build toward 20 to 25 mph as the week progresses. That means any stray spark is an absolute liability. Be mindful, be highly vigilant, and keep your fire sense completely dialed.
Also, keep a weather eye on the horizon. There is a persistent 5% chance of a rogue afternoon shower or thunderstorm popping up over the Sierra. It is a slim margin, but out here on Big Blue, unlikely is just another word for be ready. If you see the clouds start stacking vertically, do not play the hero. Pay attention to the shift and adjust your course.
"The second, and more reliable, method is not to have what we want but rather to want and appreciate what we have."
― Dalai Lama XIV, The Art of Happiness
Be kind, stay completely fluid, and keep your eyes locked on the horizon. The holiday is coming, the heat is rising, and the work is right in front of us.

¡Buenos días, my friends
Cup'O'Joe in hand, #StokeLevelSolid with a windy start to the day, winds 215º (SW) at a solid 15/16mph, windlines just north of the CRM mooring field, inside the strip ripples… Still, it's a blow-out day on #BigBlue with cooler temps, 51º here at the #HippieHaus. We may see a high of 63º today, perfect for the bike ride or hike to, and maybe a solid for a kitefly :)…
Guidance models have a chance of a brief shower or two today along the crest, mainly north of the #DirtySouth. Winds are the bummer; forecast guidance has a solid SW 10/15mph with gusts upwards of 25/30mph, ridge top at elevation 40/50mph. Lake wind advisory is in effect until 2300 tonight; waters are now 63.2º , with a slight drop in temps over the past 24hrs. Stay dry, check your lines and bilge pumps, it's going to be a bumpity day on the lake, mostly along the Nor-Shore and East Shore.
Good news: #MotherNature begins to course-correct as we move into next week. NWS AFDs have noted a potential for more rifts in the force, so stay tuned, and thirsty, my friends.
“One of the basic points is kindness. With kindness, with love and compassion, with his feeling that is the essence of brotherhood, sisterhood, one will have inner peace. This compassionate feeling is the basis of inner peace.”

¡Buenos días, my friends
Cup'O'Joe in hand, #StokeLevelSOLID and rising on this #TenaciousTuesday. Pre-dawn, we have 12" of fresh on the deck here at the #HippieHaus. This is #CertifiablyColdSmoke—that #NoKaOi Utah-grade powder we've been waiting for.
But make no mistake: Stage 2 is the hammer, and it is just getting started.
The Peak Surge (8 AM – 10 PM Today)
The most impactful window of this storm is hitting now. We are looking at:
• Intensity: Snow rates of 2–3" per hour this afternoon.
• Winds: Sustained at 45–65 mph with ridgetop gusts screaming at 100+ mph.
• Quality: Temperatures have plummeted (-13°F on the ridgetops; 9°F at Kirkwood). This cold air is driving ratios toward 20:1—pure #ColdSmoke.
Mtn Ops & The Road "Junk Show"
Every major Sierra route is under chain requirements. SR-88 Carson Spur is CLOSED due to snow. I-80 and Hwy 50 are a gauntlet of chain controls and whiteouts.
Your Mtn Teams and Patrol are out there doing the heavy lifting this morning. Have patience with the avy-mitigation holds and #NO-Uphill transit. These crews are the backbone—give them the space to work so we can get to the goods.
Avalanche Watch: HIGH DANGER
The danger is rising quickly. Natural and human-triggered cycles are increasingly likely as we surpass the 6" loading threshold. Avoid avalanche terrain. The danger is real, and it stays high through tomorrow. #KnowBeforeYouGo
The 10-Day Streak?
The "break" on Wednesday is short-lived. Storm #3 is already tracking for Thursday (another foot at the crest possible), and signals are point toward Storm #4 on Sunday. We could be looking at 10–11 consecutive days of snow.

¡Buenos días, my friends,
Cup’O’Joe in hand, #FeelNGoodFriday and the #StokeLevelSolid as the sun cracks the horizon here at the #HippieHaus. We’re sitting at 24º right now, and it’s a classic #Inverted setup: temps above 8k are hanging in the 33º+ zone, winds are light, and we’ve got a gentle cooling trend rolling in over the next two days.
Weekend Vibe: Expect snow to stay #Firm&Fast in the mornings. Timing is everything if you want that hero corn window before the sun dips.
The Chill: A trough drops in for the weekend cooldown (Saturday is the cold punch with highs in the 30s) before we rebound into the 40s by Sunday.
The Outlook: Early next week looks clean and dry. We are keeping a pin in mid-February for a potential pattern shift toward wetter weather.
Special Ops: I’m posted up in Devil’s Corral at KirkwoodMtn the next few days for the Tahoe Jr. Freeride Tour, Stop #3. On the mic with CJ. If you want to see the best junior freeride athletes in the nation, send it; this one’s a must-watch.

The Bottom Line: It’s a beautiful Friday to be in the Sierra, but let’s be candid about the surface—it is #Firm&Fast. If you find soft snow today, you have found the Holy Grail of secret stashes, so keep that on the DL. The switch flips tonight as the East Winds crank up and the temps drop, locking things up even tighter for tomorrow. If you are near KirkwoodMtn, come say “what-up” - We’ll be posted up in Devil’s Corral for the Freeride comp—the kids are going to put on a show.

¡Buenos días my friends,
Cup’O’Joe in hand, #WithstandTheNoiseWednesday, #StokeLevelSolid at 11. It is a tough forecast to digest this AM, and we are back to the long-haul report. Models, guidance, hell, BA is even on the list for a fresh-refill of Xanax to press through the next two weeks. The noise is loud: South East and East Coast blizzards, while the West is high & dry. Not just the West Coast but the entire western region - UT, CO, WA, MT, WY, OR, and CA.
The Strategy: Sounds like a challenge, right? Whatever, you have the pass - the IKON, EPIC, Cali, or Powder Alliance - so use’m. Hit the road, use the pass for its value: VARIETY. New resorts, new terrain, new adventures. Take a Western-Front lap… by the time you’re back here in the Basin, we’ll be back in the snowzone. Simple.
Today’s Conditions:
The Vibe: Partly cloudy skies, cooler temps around lake level (20s), upper mtn’s (above 8k) are in the mid-30s. Winds are light, with a shift mid-day. Layer up and be ready to shed a few.
The Surface: #Firm&Fast ~ Mtn Teams are working magic. Cord is carvalicious - get out early for the #FreshCord.
Off-Piste: Funkity, wind-affected, and firm early on. There are stashes of goodness, but they are far and few between.

¡Buenos días my friends,
Cup’O’Joe in hand, #TakeThePowerbackTuesday is here with the #StokeLevelSolid. We have cool temps at the #HippieHaus and partly cloudy skies. The snow will be Firm & Fast, softening through the day, with temps peaking around 48º.
Sierra Sit-Rep:
• The Surface: #EarlyBird gets the #FreshCord for your knifing pleasure. Off-piste will be crusty and wind-affected on most aspects.
• The Inversion: It’s another “Upside Down” start. Truckee is a chilly 16ºF, while Kirkwood Chair 6 is sitting at 38ºF.
• The Hope: NWS forecasters are hinting at a pattern change towards the End of Month (EOM). Ensembles show signs of “multiple storms rolling through the Sierra,” though confidence remains low.

The Sit-Rep:
• The Surface: Fast and Firm. Limited pockets of wind-affected snow remain.
• The Inversion: It’s another “Upside Down” start. Truckee is a deep freeze at 14ºF, while Kirkwood Chair 6 is sitting at 39ºF.

The Sit-Rep: Snow, warmer temps, and sunshine have begun to firm up the surfaces regionally.
• The Goodness: There are still pockets of chalky, wind-affected snow if you know where to look.
• The Surface: In-bounds is Firm & Fast to start, softening throughout the day. The Mountain Teams are dropping tillers to create the best-sliding surfaces in the West.
