53 ANIMAL WELFARE NGOs APPEAL TO THE CM OF TAMIL NADU !! We, 50+ NGOs have come together to urge the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to constitute an independent Special Investigation Team (SIT) or high-level fact-finding committee into the transfer of five young elephants — Durga, Rupsing, Shiva, Hiralal and Bijuli — from Assam to Tamil Nadu temples. The joint appeal raises serious questions about: • Ownership and age records • Possible trade disguised as “gift” or “donation” • Doubtful paperwork and certificates • Possible signs of wild capture • The 3,000-km journey and alleged cruelty in transit • Compliance with Tamil Nadu’s captive-elephant rules • The use of these young elephants in temple rituals and processions We are asking the Government to investigate first — before more young elephants are transferred.
