🧵 IBM is listing a Hedera-powered identity platform designed for AI agents, autonomous vehicles, drones and humans.
It provides an interesting glimpse into what Hedera’s ambitions may extend beyond payments and tokenization.

IBM’s Partner Plus Directory includes a solution called IDTrust.
The platform is provided by The @hashgraphgroup and described as:
“A secure self-sovereign identity platform with enterprise-grade cryptography for AI agents, smart devices and humans.”
More importantly, IBM explicitly states:
“IDTrust is built on Hedera DLT, combining enterprise-grade cryptography with a clear path to post-quantum security as standards mature.”
That statement alone is worth paying attention to.
IBM is not simply another company associated with Hedera.
It is one of Hedera’s Governing Council members.
The Council oversees network governance, treasury management, technical decisions and policy changes while its members operate consensus nodes securing the network.
Each member has equal voting rights and limited terms, ensuring that no single organization controls Hedera.
In other words, @IBM is not merely observing the ecosystem.
It participates directly in governing and operating the public infrastructure on which IDTrust is built.
IDTrust itself is more than a digital identity application.
It is a Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) platform designed to bridge humans, AI agents and Internet of Things devices.
Rather than storing sensitive information on centralized databases, the platform leverages Hedera’s distributed ledger to anchor cryptographically secured identities while allowing users and systems to retain control over their own credentials.
At its core, the architecture combines three technological building blocks.
Digital ID Wallets allow users, enterprises and autonomous systems to locally manage credentials and selectively disclose information.
Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) provide tamper-resistant identities for robots, drones, autonomous vehicles and AI agents, anchored on Hedera.
And the platform incorporates a pathway toward Post-Quantum Cryptography, preparing for future security standards in an era where quantum computing may challenge today’s cryptographic assumptions.
@IBM highlights several industries where IDTrust could potentially be deployed, including banking, automotive, healthcare, telecommunications, utilities, logistics and energy.
IBM listing IDTrust does not necessarily mean IBM is directly selling or integrating the solution.
IBM Partner Plus primarily acts as a go-to-market ecosystem where customers can discover partner offerings.
However, it does mean that enterprises exploring IBM’s ecosystem can now encounter a decentralized identity platform powered by @hedera
Payments and tokenization often dominate discussions around distributed ledger technology.
Yet identity may ultimately become just as important.
Humans need identities.
Businesses need identities.
And increasingly, autonomous machines, AI agents, drones and connected devices will need identities as well.
IBM showcasing a Hedera-powered identity solution designed for exactly that purpose may therefore be another small but interesting indication of where parts of the ecosystem are heading.
