On This Day In #JKRowling Tweet Nostalgia - 2025
JKR changed her X /Twitter header to an image of a tree house, providing one of the most intriguing clues for #Strike9, which, a year later, we now have a name for - #SleepTightEvangeline
For me the tree house definitely hints at a theme involving children/childhood, from Enid Blyton's "The Magic Faraway Tree" to Max Brailler's "The Last Kids on Earth, the tree house signifies adventure away from the interference of adults as well as a place of security to retreat to.
In all cultures where trees are part of the landscape, they are 'axis mundi', the link between heaven, earth and the underworld.
As a 'Jungian' perspective has become a focus when analysing the Strike & Ellacott novels - which for me is a rabbit hole with a red herring at the bottom ๐
- it's probably worth pointing out that Jung saw the symbolism of the tree as 'axis mundi' representing an archetype of the collective conciousness, the trunk, branches, leaves and roots the masculine and feminine, light and shadow, conscious and unconscious; exploring and understanding these dualities of the psyche leading to reconciliation of the whole.
My first thoughts about the ending of #TheHallmarkedMan and how STE will explore Robin's 'journey' were that she'll retreat to her Yorkshire roots to examine the conflicting choices she's faced with, confront her past and heal the rift with her Mum.
So the tree represents her need to reconcile who she really is and the tree house a safe place - Masham - to retreat to find out.
Or Michael Ellacott, whilst building a tree house for Annabel Marie, Barnaby and Dirk, falls off a ladder and is brown bread. ๐

Thanks to Bill - and JKR ๐ - we know that Strike and Robin visit Ganley's Irish Bar & Grill, located in Morden, a suburb of Sth West London in #Strike9 #SleepTightEvangeline
It could be a hot date over a Sunday roast, maybe Strike has, at last, decided to drink some Guinness, they could be surveilling a mark or looking for info.
There is however a very small connection between Morden and another - as per JKR's X Twitter header - STE location: Portsmouth.
Morden Hall, located in what is now the National Trust run Morden Hall Park, was home to Abraham Goldsmid (1756-1810), an Anglo-Jewish financier and philanthropist, born in Holland.
He and his brother underwrote loans for the British Gvts military schemes against France and Napoleon.
He was close friends with Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson, and Emma Hamilton, who at the time were living in the 'neighbouring' Merton Place.
After Nelson's death at Trafalgar in 1805, Goldsmid continued his friendship with Emma Hamilton, helping with her debts and social standing.
Goldsmid came to a tragic end due to his own insurmountable debts, taking his own life in 1810.
Though Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson described Portsmouth as "that horrid place" in a letter to Emma Hamilton, he and the city are inextricably linked.
His final journey on British soil was from The George Hotel in the High Street to the Naval Dockyards and his ship The Victory, on September 14th, 1805. He would die on the 21st October.
Ok, ok, probably only a 'connection' that me & @kasstl1 would be interested in but I find these things quietly satisfying. ๐
