@studysync @Catlin_Tucker @KatieNovakUDL Shenandoah High School 9-12. 9th grade classes I enjoy teaching the text in the CORE ELA Unit All for Love. It’s my favorite Unit by far. I think the students comment so much. I also teach drama so adding in West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet is great! #SyncUpChat

A6: I am almost through "UDL and Blended Learning", but really anything arts & UDL! I learned so much from Elizabeth Byron the past few years in my last district, but broad arts examples across our subject areas would be helpful for me in the work I do w/Es.

A5: SAFE SPACES! Share in the learning with your students and don't feel the need to be the "sage on the stage". Authenticity speaks volumes.
📚 Q5: Discussion + collaborative conversations are cornerstones of StudySync. What advice do you have for teachers who want to implement these frameworks in the classroom to focus on community, equity, and accessibility for all learners? @Catlin_Tucker @KatieNovakUDL #SyncUpChat
@Catlin_Tucker We also love #TQE from @MarisaEThompson to get students generating their own questions & talking- questions that don’t get answered we post in Google Classroom for those who are introverted #syncupchat
@studysync @KatieNovakUDL Thanks for having us! Always love a chance to chat with @KatieNovakUDL and the amazing community of @studysync teachers! #SyncUpChat

A4: Most artists are skilled @ reflection through creation, though sometimes it's difficult to translate that to teaching process due to our expertise & desire to "transfer that on". It might be easier to remove the self from decisions & think of students first...
📚 Q4: Once #ELA teachers select a text that they know is culturally responsive, what is the next step to ensure the learning experience meets the needs of all students? Teachers, do you self-reflect before assigning a text? @Catlin_Tucker @KatieNovakUDL #SyncUpChat
@KatieNovakUDL Yes, we did!!! Anyone who want to read about #UDL + #BlendedLearning can find it --> https://t.co/SNScbYxiSM #SyncUpChat
@Catlin_Tucker I love doing #chatstations with students @cultofpedagogy has a great, quick 5m video to explain how to run them! #syncupchat
@KatieNovakUDL @146reads1 🤣 Kids may love to read but they may not love what we ask them to read. Reading is so individual. I know we are both lovers of crime novels but give me historical nonfiction and I'm asleep in minutes! #SyncUpChat
A5: We also need to provide scaffolds to ensure students can engage in discussions. Kids will benefit from support (sentence frames, observing a fishbowl) to hone the skills they need to engage in a vibrant discussion in person or online #SyncUpChat
A5 Embrace #UDL and scaffolds. Provide protocols, word banks, sentence stems, self-assessment rubrics, time for reflection before and after the discussion, and be open to feedback. Ask, "How could we do better or be more inclusive next time?" #SyncUpChat
📚Q6: Educators that are chatting with @Catlin_Tucker and @KatieNovakUDL tonight—what additional questions do you have about implementing UDL and Blended Learning in your classroom? Drop them 👇🏾and use #SyncUpChat so Catlin and Katie see your question!
Collaboration is key! #SyncUpChat

A2: In my subject area, I think many perceive #BlendedLearning as an external tool that supplants the work we wish to do w/Ss & the output they "need to be artists". It's ongoing work to find options & I learn new ideas everyday when I am able to collaborate w/peers.

A3: This Q is a little outside of my subject area 😉, but it's best to focus on the concepts students need to explore w/the resource when in the process of selecting said resource. Literature in music is one... personal preference shouldn't come before the key concept
📚 Q3: StudySync is largely a community of ELA educators. Literature selection is a critical part of the job. When selecting texts as entry points for a responsible Blended Learning and UDL tie-in, what factors should be considered? @Catlin_Tucker @KatieNovakUDL #SyncUpChat
@Catlin_Tucker @146reads1 To be clear, unless we read aloud every word which can be exclusionary, students did not all "read" the same thing. They were assigned the same thing. I mean, I was a Queen on Sparknotes on texts I was assigned. And I actually loved reading. #SyncUpChat
A5: I'm a big advocate for blended small group student-led discussions (4 corner conversations) w/asynchronous online discussions. That way, all students have an opportunity to engage in the class dialogue, not just our outspoken kids #SyncUpChat
