Today our #SYS26 youth attended the commemoration at the Srebrenica Memorial Center in Potočari, standing alongside thousands who gathered to honor the victims of the genocide.
They walked among the graves of over 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys, witnessed the solemnity of the day, and stood in remembrance with survivors, families, and people from around the world who came together to say: we will never forget.

This evening, #SYS26 youth led by our founder and president Velma Šarić joined thousands of walkers on the final kilometers of the Peace March.
This annual three-day trek is retracing the route taken by those who tried to escape Srebrenica in July 1995, walking through the forests of eastern Bosnia toward safety.
For our participants walking alongside survivors, families, and people from across the region wasn't just an act of solidarity: it was a chance to witness remembrance in motion. Along the way, they talked with fellow walkers, listened to their stories, and reflected on what it means to protect memory and work on prevention of atrocities.

Today our youth visited ICMP in Tuzla, gaining a first-hand look into the Podrinje Identification Project and meeting with Senior Forensic Anthropologist Dragana Vučetić.
Behind every identification is years of meticulous forensic work - DNA analysis, painstaking documentation, and an unwavering commitment to giving names back to the missing and closure to their families. Thousands of victims from the region have been identified thanks to this work, but the process continues with a thousand genocide victims still missing.
We're proud to have partnered with #ICMP for many years, and grateful for their continued dedication to truth and justice for the families still waiting for answers.

Danas su naši mladi posjetili Međunarodnu komisiju za nestale osobe u Tuzli, gdje su iz prve ruke imali priliku upoznati se s Identifikacionim projektom Podrinje, uz susret sa višom forenzičkom antropologinjom Draganom Vučetić.
Iza svake identifikacije stoje godine mukotrpnog forenzičkog rada – DNK analize, pedantno dokumentovanje i nepokolebljiva posvećenost tome da se nestalima vrati ime, a porodicama mir. Zahvaljujući ovom radu, hiljade žrtava iz regiona su identifikovane, ali proces se nastavlja jer se još uvijek traga za hiljadu žrtava genocida.
Ponosni smo na partnerstvo sa #ICMP i zahvalni na njihovoj posvećenosti istini i pravdi za porodice koje i dalje čekaju odgovore.

Our #sys26 cohort visited Sarajevo City Hall (Vijećnica) and the Sarajevo Information Centre on the ICTY.
The visit focused on the Tribunal's work - documenting war crimes, delivering verdicts, and building a factual record of the 1990s. Seeing case files and testimonies up close made the topic feel far less abstract for our you and it was a powerful reminder of why judicial legacy matters: to ensure future generations inherit facts rather than competing narratives.

Today's sessions at #SYS26 focused on the history and pursuit of justice after genocide.
🔹With Nemanja Stjepanović (@unirmct), we examined judicially established facts and the role of tribunal archives in memorialization and education.
🔹With Dr. Hikmet Karčić (Institute for the Research of Crimes against Humanity and International Law, University of Sarajevo), we discussed the ongoing efforts to seek accountability after the genocide and fight genocide denial and relativism.
🔹The day closed with a workshop session led by our team on developing joint youth projects tackling remembrance, personal narratives of history and activism.
The program continues tomorrow with trips to Tuzla and Srebrenica!

Današnje sesije u okviru #SYS26 bile su fokusirane na historiju i potragu za pravdom nakon genocida.
🔹Sa Nemanjom Stjepanovićem (@unirmct), razmatrali smo sudski utvrđene činjenice i ulogu arhiva Tribunala u memorijalizaciji i obrazovanju.
🔹Sa dr. Hikmetom Karčićem (Institut za istraživanje zločina - Univerzitet u Sarajevu), razgovarali smo o kontinuiranim naporima za utvrđivanje odgovornosti nakon genocida i borbi protiv poricanja i relativizacije.
🔹Dan je zaključen radionicom koju je vodio naš tim, posvećenoj razvoju zajedničkih omladinskih projekata koji se bave sjećanjem, ličnim narativima historije i aktivizmom.
Program se sutra nastavlja putem ka Tuzli i Srebrenici!

🙏#SYS26 cohort also visited @Galerija110795 - the first memorial gallery in Bosnia and Herzegovina, dedicated to preserving the memory of the Srebrenica genocide and the 8,372 persons killed.
Through documentary photographs, maps, audio, and video materials, the permanent exhibition offers a powerful and unflinching account of what remained of Srebrenica in the aftermath of July 1995.
For our participants, this visit was a profound and emotional moment, and, for many, a first direct encounter with the history they came here to learn about.

Naši #SYS26 mladi su posjetili i @Galerija110795 - prvu galeriju u Bosni i Hercegovini posvećenu očuvanju sjećanja na genocid u Srebrenici i 8.372 osobe ubijene u genocidu.
Kroz dokumentarne fotografije, mape, audio i video materijale, stalna postavka nudi snažan i iskren prikaz onoga što je ostalo od Srebrenice nakon jula 1995. godine.
Za naše učesnike ova posjeta je bila duboko emotivan trenutak i, za mnoge, prvi direktan susret sa historijom o kojoj su došli učiti.
