Thanks @Andrea_Sykes & @msjyon for the engaging discussion re copyright & Fair Dealings. It was exciting to talk about what we “can” (not just “can’t) do in this digital era, while considering moral & legal responsibility for using & creating content #TDSBDigCit @tdsbVL #tdsbdll
@TDSB_DLL A4: Good question. My Ss and I have looked at post and dissected since they were creating their own for a project.
Modelling is important as our Ss do see us online. Provide a safe space where they can learn and understand their online behaviour.

@TDSB_DLL A6: I went to look for that link and then I thought, discussions with Ss and colleagues has been my most powerful resource. Being a digital citizen implies a community and for me building knowledge together is important to maintain that community. #tdsbDigCit #tdsbDLL #tdsbDLA
A6: @MediaSmarts has been a go-to resource for introducing #tdsbDigCit to Gr1-3. @A_M_L_ has also been a favourite resource for deeper dives. #tdsbDigCit #tdsbDLL
@LSimmons_TDSB @TDSB_DLL Leaning towards the two twitter accounts as well but not necessarily locked...I am still trying to figure out my own next steps.

@TDSB_DLL A3: Being conscietous the platforms and their nature. Doing my best to contribute positively to the different spaces while maintaining a healthy balance, for my own mental health. Also relazing that others are looking at me as an example as well.

A6: https://t.co/yUaoPZZ027 has great resources for teachers & families. They are straightforward and easy to utilize quickly in response to issues or situations. #tdsbDigCit #tdsbDLL #tdsbDLA
@TDSB_DLL I think this would make for an interesting inquiry for student throughout the year. Ss might not even know they have a right to privacy. #tdsbDigCit #tdsbDLL #tdsbDLA
A5: For my young learners, I only use #tdsbDigCit approved Digital Tools. Students often ask when we might use other programs/apps and this opens up discussion for why we need to follow these guidelines established by knowledgeable adults who look out for our safety. #tdsbDLL
@TDSB_DLL AQ I also liked this article about the 9 elements of D.C. https://t.co/2iIPg5jpHB #tdsbDigCit
A4: (2) I’m behind this year, but I love supervising & moderating student contributions on our class website. They type in Google Docs & we conference. It gets published on the site when approved with #tdsbDigCit really as the only stopping point. #tdsbDLL
@ZeliaMCT @TDSB_DLL @McM_MsT @CommonSenseEd @francissyms Common Sense Education has great resources for Dig Cit! #tdsbDigCit
@TDSB_DLL A4: This is a really powerful question. I think because it also speaks to how we can share authentically. It's 'the medium is the message' to loosely quote Marshal McLuhan. #tdsbDigCit #tdsbDLL #tdsbDLA
A4: I encourage/teach my Gr3 #tdsbDigCit by leaving the Stream open in Google Classroom for student comments. Mistakes are sometimes made, but we discuss authentically & openly, learning together. #tdsbDLL
@TDSB_DLL @McM_MsT A5: Discussing phishing (scams), privacy (never share passwords) & protection (keep software up-to-date) @CommonSenseEd ‘if it seems suspicious, it is likely is suspicious’- @francissyms Backup your files/📸photos/data! #tdsbDigCit 2/2
A5: Addressing what personal data & information is, how it can be used in the wrong hands (examples are helpful) is an important start. For example, why do some sites, tools ask for the information they do? How might they use it, for which purposes? #tdsbDigCit #tdsbDLL #tdsbDLA
@TDSB_DLL A5: Reflect on how we choose to create our digital 👣 or tattoo: school & home (personal info). ❓how much we share online like personal info during an online game or chat forum. We model thru our class Twitter account @mcm_mst positive interactions (post/comment) #tdsbDigCit 1/2
@TDSB_DLL Q5 Sharing guidelines around protecting themselves e.g. never give out personal info, what is personal vs private info -breaking it down. Discussing settings features in video games and social media to keep things "private" rather than public. #tdsbDigCit
@TDSB_DLL Q5 Rather than shaming Ss under 13 about their social media accts (many have despite the terms & conditions), explaining concerns (safety, security, cyberbullying, self-esteem, etc.) & the significance of their long-lasting digital footprint can be more valuable #tdsbDigCit
A3: I try to create a responsible & representative footprint online, cautious & intentional about content posted & omitted. I follow and connect with others who inspire. I try to be mindful of my balance of media consumer/creator but am a work in progress! #tdsbDigCit #tdsbDLL
