Yesterday, the #TEFSquad in Kenya visited the business location of Belmy Kipruto, CEO of Ustawi Organic Farms and a 2024 Kenyan #TEFAlumni! 🇰🇪🌱
Based in Otongolo, Kisumu, Ustawi Organic Farms is an innovative agricultural enterprise transforming the way communities think about waste through circular agriculture and waste-to-wealth solutions.
Using Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL), Belmy and her team convert organic waste collected from local kitchens, markets and households into valuable, eco-friendly products.
By diverting waste from landfills, the enterprise is helping to reduce environmental pollution, lower production costs for farmers and build a cleaner, more resilient agricultural ecosystem in Kenya.
This is what entrepreneurship looks like: turning challenges into opportunities and creating impact that reaches far beyond the business.

This week, the #TEFSquad is on the ground in Kenya, engaging with women entrepreneurs participating in the Investing in Young Businesses in Africa – Women Entrepreneurship for Africa (IYBA-WE4A) Programme.
Our first stop took us to Kisumu, where we gained deeper insights into the businesses, entrepreneurial journeys, and the impact our women entrepreneurs are creating within their communities.

Last week in Mozambique, the #TEFSquad met with Eng. Rasha Obaid, Education Specialist – Digital Transformation, and her team at the (@UNICEF) UNICEF Mozambique Office to deepen collaboration around youth entrepreneurship, skills development, and green innovation.
The conversation highlighted the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s growing impact through the TEF Entrepreneurship Programme and our #BeGreenAfrica initiative, while exploring new opportunities to strengthen capacity building and entrepreneurial support for young people.
Co-created by the Tony Elumelu Foundation, UNICEF Generation Unlimited, and the IKEA Foundation, #BeGreenAfrica is equipping hundreds of young green entrepreneurs across Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa with the training, mentorship, and funding they need to build sustainable businesses and contribute to Africa’s green economy.
Together, we are creating more pathways for young people to turn ideas into impact—and build a greener, more inclusive Africa.

Today, the #TEFSquad visited the GIZ Mozambique Country Office in Maputo, marking the start of the 2026 #IYBAWE4A Verification Exercise. 🇲🇿
The programme equips women entrepreneurs with business management training, mentorship and networks to build sustainable businesses, create jobs and drive Africa’s green transformation.
Building on the 2024 cohort, which supported 751 women entrepreneurs across 8 African countries, the 2026 programme continues to invest in women building businesses and stronger, more inclusive economies.
Together with the @EU_Commission , GIZ, @PressACP and @BMZ_Bund we are expanding economic opportunities for women across Africa.
The journey continues.

Wherever the #TEFSquad goes across Africa, one thing remains a priority: connecting with our incredible #TEFAlumni and witnessing the true #TEFImpact firsthand.
This week in Rwanda, the Tony Elumelu Foundation team visited the business of Richard Ngoga, a 2023 Rwandan #TEFAlumni and Founder of Volt, an electric mobility company driving Rwanda's transition to cleaner, more sustainable transportation.
Through Volt, Richard is making electric mobility accessible to individuals, moto-taxi operators, and delivery businesses by combining locally relevant engineering, flexible financing options, and reliable after-sales support.
Since launching in 2023, Volt has deployed over 100 electric motorcycles across Kigali, helping reduce dependence on fuel-powered transportation while contributing to a greener future. Since participating in the TEF Entrepreneurship Programme, Richard has created 15 direct and indirect jobs and is on track to expand Volt's presence to all provinces in Rwanda by the end of 2026.
Richard's journey is a testament to what is possible when African entrepreneurs are empowered to succeed. Stay tuned to hear his inspiring story!

Kicking off the day with a ‘Train the Trainer’ session for the judges of the Aguka Ideation Entrepreneurship Programme Pitching Session!
These judges — seasoned professionals and entrepreneurs from diverse sectors — were equipped with insights into the Aguka Ideation Entrepreneurship Programme and its objectives, ensuring fairness, clarity, and alignment ahead of the pitch sessions.
This week, 200 young Rwandan entrepreneurs will pitch their innovative ideas for a chance to receive non-refundable seed capital of $3,000 to turn their ideas into real businesses!
This opportunity is thanks to the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, the Rwandan Ministry of Youth and Arts, and the European Union to empower additional entrepreneurs in Rwanda.

Today, the Tony Elumelu Foundation team paid a courtesy visit to our long-standing partners, @UNDP, to deepen our collaboration and explore new opportunities for entrepreneurs in Côte d’Ivoire.
Our conversations centred on unlocking innovation and enterprise within the blue economy, green economy, and orange economy — sectors with immense potential to drive sustainable growth, job creation, and economic transformation across the country.
Since 2015, the Tony Elumelu Foundation has trained, mentored, and funded over 160 young Ivorian entrepreneurs, empowering them to build thriving businesses, create jobs, and contribute meaningfully to their communities and economy.
