Marvins Antoine, a freshman running back from Boston who starred at Durfee High School in Fall River, was fatally stabbed in the chest early last Saturday, September 19, in a Wendy’s parking lot on Charles Street in Providence. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. after an altercation that began outside Mezzo Lounge, where the club had reached capacity and stopped admitting people. A teammate, 19-year-old freshman defensive back Kensley Macean of Dighton, was also stabbed and suffered non-life-threatening injuries to the head, neck, and arm. Both players had been at the lounge with other members of the football team hours after UMass Dartmouth’s home game against Framingham State. Providence police charged 19-year-old Chukwunonso Uzoma David Uzoma Eze, another UMass Dartmouth student who was not on the football team, with murder. He was arrested on campus, waived extradition, and is being held without bail pending transfer to Rhode Island to face charges. Police have said there is no indication the suspect knew the victims beforehand. The investigation remains ongoing. Federal law enforcement sources have reported that Eze, a Nigerian national, entered the United States on a B-2 tourist visa in March 2015, received two extensions, and later remained after his authorized stay expired. He was granted deferred action (a temporary delay of removal that does not confer lawful status) in September 2022 and again in October 2025. Antoine had been on campus only a short time. Friends and former coaches have described him as outgoing, loyal, and a positive presence. Condolences go out to his family, to Kensley Macean as he recovers, and to everyone at UMass Dartmouth and in Fall River who knew him.
