Understanding the 'Six Pillars' / foundational objectives / Guiding principles of #InternationalMensDay by #ThomasOaster
NOTE (as mentioned by @Gynocentrism ) : IMD belongs to everyone and no one, it is a truly decentralised event.

Thomas Oaster started this event in the early 1990s and he had hundreds of international attendees come to his IMD events, or who otherwise celebrated in thier own countries simultaneously.
Jerome Teelucksingh, who started his IMD event almost a decade later had no such attendee success, stating "My early efforts at observing and promoting International Men’s Day were not successful. There was a disappointing public response as the first observances attracted only 5 to 10 persons. And, most of the times, members of my family comprised half the audience! The government and private businesses in my country were not interested in International Men’s Day."
As it turned out, many countries were celebrating a 'men's day' but each on different days of the year. So a few enterprising men's rights activists, myself among them, decided to write to MRAs in all the different countries asking if they would all like to agree to celebrate IMD on the same international date. Jerome's November date was selected for this, although it was not Jerome who invited all these countries to join in on that date - it was others who successfully made the invites. The rest is history, and now 60+ countries celebrate the November date.
All this detail is important to recount for one reason: this event does not belong to Jerome. It was started before him, and popularised by people other than him. He of course played his part, but is not the central figure in that evolution. IMD belongs to everyone and no one, it is a truly decentralised event.
History lesson over.
