Let's talk about the green elephant in the room. The Twitter/X Spaces around the recent Kick controversies have been interesting to listen to and I wanted to share some thoughts on what I've heard. There was a space held on Sunday around the Ice Poseidon clip and Eddie's involvement in chat. IP joined the call to berate anyone who had a problem with it. There was a lot more shouting and talking over each other than there was calm and rational discussion. The next space I listened to was on Tuesday where Adin Ross showed up to defend his "You deserve to be hung on trees" comments. He went on to explain that he's misunderstood because people clip out of context and don't include the "just joking" part of his comments. After Adin left the call, it was mostly a lot of Kick's more prominent creators complaining about cancel culture, voicing their hatred for Twitch and disgust toward Twitch streamers while preaching "Kick family". My takeaways : - There is a lot of confusion and concern within the community and Kick has shown zero signs of accountability. You either have rules that you enforce, or you don't. If you want Kick to be a place where there are no consequences for breaking the rules, just say that. Burn the TOS and stop lying about it. There will always be streamers breaking rules on every platform, but rules are only useful if the staff is willing to enforce them and Kick either has little interest in doing that, or they are simply participating in special treatment for a select few. - Adin might be able to convince the people that are trying to ride his coattails that he's just joking when he says all of the out of pocket shit he spews. The problem is that "jokes" are typically funny and have a punchline. Adin just wants to be able to say what he wants without consequence or judgement and leans on the "I'm just joking" cop out. - Maybe one of the stranger things I heard was how many high-level Kick streamers believe that there is some sort of existing "war" between Kick and Twitch. There was one in particular that was claiming that people leaving Kick to go back to Twitch was "treason" and that "Twitch people" don't belong in the Kick community. Through various speakers claiming conspiracy against them, "Us vs Them" rhetoric, assurances of success, and lack of tolerance for criticism... I couldn't help but have one thought : "This is cult mentality." - I know this group doesn't represent the entirety of Kick streamers and I shouldn't let them dissuade me from streaming there, but I certainly don't feel like "my kind" is welcome on this platform. I had my criticisms and concerns from the beginning, but I was willing to wait and see how things progressed with the platform. I'm not sure if I'll continue to stream on Kick or not. I'd like to see any signs of hope from the staff but I'm not holding my breath. Be excellent to each other. -Cody
