Just was notified that another #TPAIT #patient passed. I don’t know specifics but know he struggled with managing #BloodSugars after the #transplant. We know that most physicians outside of #transplant team struggle managing #bloodsugars when #islet transplant does not ‘take’. 1
No damn accusations because the team has cared for post #TPAIT. A friend asked if I had talked with the specialist for an update - my reply, no I’ll ask my daughter. She has the knowledge, she knows her body but at Sanford they mis-identified #PTSD from #MedicalTrauma & instead 3
seeking help & is blamed and shamed. While the #TPAIT has help improve many lives, for those w #complications the access to competent care extremely difficult to find. Because #complications are often issues that are not #typical #patients are blamed. In 2016 due to #CDC 3

Today is 2 year anniversary of the death of a young man who had #TPAIT. He died of complications & lack of #AfterCare. While many will have improved QoL others have significant #complications. There MUST be improved #AfterCare & #Engagement of #physicians & #hospitals 1
My friend recently lost her daughter of complications from #TPAIT. She herself in the last two years developed significant health issues one of which is a #BrainTumor as well as issues that can cause #pain. Her physician has prescribed #opioid #pain medications when necessary. 1
