A little bit of welcome certainty in a sea of #Brexit uncertainty. Having said that, because nothing is impossible in today’s British politics, it is not inconceivable that a post #NoDealBrexit government could seek to change #UKdataP law entirely.

The bottom line: The threat of #NoDealBrexit is real and will persist, in all likelihood, until the last days and hours before 31 October 2019. The key question for those with #privacy, #GDPR & #UKdataP responsibilities: How much effort do I need to put into preparing for it?

So by aiming to take such an unprecedentedly strong enforcement action, @ICOnews is effectively re-setting the expectations of many organisations in terms of what is ‘appropriate’ (and hence legally required) to meet the #GDPR and #UKdataP law standards of data protection.

@businessinsider .@kj_corcoran The UK Data Protection Act 2018 specifically exempts journalism from most of the #GDPR , including the fairness principle in art. 5 you mentioned (unlike in The Netherlands, by the way). So, did the court find this wasn’t “journalism”? #ukdatap

All that when #UKdataP = #GDPR + @ICOnews, so it’s in fact somewhat surreal that #Brexit is affecting freedom of movement of data between 🇪🇺&🇬🇧 at all. But such is the toxicity of a potential #NoDealBrexit for the digital economy. 3/3
