By striking the Nile, Moses was threatening the very existence of the people, who were in turn the source of power and authority for Pharaoh. Moses' first sign to Pharaoh should reasonably have been the last, but there's no limit to the self-destructive power of pride.

@michaelmalice Last week’s Torah portion (#vaeira) says many times that Pharaoh’s necromancers were able to duplicate many of the plagues God enabled Moshe to perform. Sorcery is accepted as real but Jews are forbidden from practicing it. Ditto astrology.

In Exodus 6, God's response to Israel's unbelief wasn't to attack Israel, but to attack the cause of their unbelief, which was Pharaoh. Don't be like Pharaoh. #Vaeira
