#virtualPeru - day 19 (again) sorry, yesterday was day 18, the trouble with trying to tweet whilst offline! So, s full day back in #cusco, I felt a bit braver this time and visited the locals market...
#virtualPeru - day 19. Not a great deal happened on this day, which is a blessing as my @SkyUK internet has stopped working here in #Sheffield! We drove from Tinke back to Cusco and pizza for evening meal. Photo is of Tinke market, my other shots won't load.
#virtualPeru day 17 The horses are loaded for a final time, & after a few hours unloaded too. We're ushered into a large vehicle & driven to Tinke by a man in a cowboy hat 🤠, He seems very influential & soon there are crates of beer and he builds a Peruvian BBQ, a Pachamanca.
#virtualPeru - Day 16. once again we woke to a dusting of snow, we pack up and headbover Apacheta pass, around pucacocha lakes. Its like Elbrus and Scotland combined! We finish the day just after lunch in a place called upis.

We walk up to the Warmisaya pass at 5000m. The good thing about this is it doesn't really feel hard anymore! A more steady decline the other side takes us to #RainbowMountain, somewhere I've wanted to go for a long time. We go back to the same camp.
#virtualPeru day 14 - So, after a windy night with a large rockfall and an avalanche it was time to leave. Feels a weird mix of sad/pointless/relief. So, we take the tents down, pack up the horses & head over the Abra palomani pass again & head to Jananta panta camp. It's cold.
#virtualPeru Day 13- unfortunately we awoke to snow. The reality of mountaineering is that despite the beautiful days spent walking in we were here to climb Ausangate and we couldn't even see it. We had a little walk to Abra palomani pass, the views were amazing.
#virtualPeru - day 12, we're leaving the Surapata campsite today and heading to Ausangate base camp, it's a nice walk down a beautiful valley before we turn off right up into the mountains. The ice crystal rainbows and menacing clouds were setting the scene for the coming days...
#virtualPeru - Day 11, was a rest day. Actually I did rest a lot but you'll all know I'm really good at eating & sleeping! Had a walk to just over 5000m, saw lots of wildlife. I have no idea what the bird was, anyone.. (I know it's out of focus)
#virtualPeru day 10 - We set off in the same direction as the day before, today we crossed jampa pass, yesterday we climbed jampa peak. The next campsite was #Surapata, it had flushing toilets! At about 4600m it felt relaxing, and the surroundings were as always beautiful.
#virtualPeru Day 9, so another cold & long night, this would be a day of being out & walking by 05:30, we were off to climb #Jampa, stunning scenery in every direction from 5510m. Even better was we were on the summit by 10:30 so we had a packed lunch & hot soup when we got back!
#virtualPeru day 8, after a cold night I woke to a beautiful clear day. We packed up camp and took a stunning walk to the next camp. Another beautiful, quiet camp, this time 4800m, we would have 2 nights here, the regular pattern of a cold hail storm by dinner time.
#virtualPeru day 7, a drive away from Cusco, we stop in Tinke for lunch, gas & to arrange some horses, then (finally) we're camping in the mountains! A beautiful but cold site, a small lodge (reminding me of Nepal) & altitude! I think we're 4400m, it hailed a little then bed.
#virtualPeru Day 6 was a sorting day back in Cusco. The sightseeing tourist stuff was done; there was food to buy & equipment to sort for the mountains. There was a carnival of some kind and a lot more photos to be taken! Nobody wants to see packing when there's llamas in town?
#virtualPeru Day 5.. I got up at silly o'clock & started walking. Most people go by bus & up a winding road to arrive at the gates, clearly I walked. Being from Sheffield I'd say walking uphill is something I'm naturally good at. I present to you, Machu Picchu!
#virtualPeru Day 4, I went to Ollyantaytambo, there were so many people there in beautiful bright clothes. Then I got on a big ol' train! It moved slowly but the ride was nice, I ended up in Aguas Calientes; tomorrow I'll be visiting Machu Picchu.
#virtualPeru On my first full day in Cusco I walked up to the ancient #Saqsaywaman site, huge blocks placed by the Inca people. It was roughly 300m gain on yesterday but 3700m in 2 days (Lima being by the sea) I still needed to take it easy. Eager to get to the mountains now!
#virtualPeru - Inspired by a few others who are sharing their mountaineering & trekking trips, I thought I'd share one of mine from last summer. This is Cusco, it took 2 days to get here & at 3400m I needed to stay a couple of nights. A huge city with a very Spanish feel.
