September 10 1992 - The @trailblazers announce that center #WayneCooper is retiring after 14 years in the @NBA and will move into the #Blazers front office.
Cooper played 5 seasons with the #Blazers in two different stints. Cooper arrived in #Portland in a 1982 trade from the @dallasmavs. He averaged 9.7 points and 6.5 rebounds in 24 minutes of action. Cooper was a starter in 98 of the 161 games he played during that time.
Cooper was traded, along with #CalvinNatt and @phattime12, to the @nuggets in 1984, Cooper had his two best statistical season in #Denver, averaging 12.5 points and 7.9 rebounds on a #Nuggets team that reached the #WCF in 1985 and the #WCSF in 1986.
Cooper returned to #Portland in 1989 as a FA, and was been a solid backup to #KevinDuckworth and #CliffordRobinson, in one of the most successful stretches in team history.
Cooper is the third Blazers player to have a second stint with the Blazers, joining #DaleSchlueter and #MauriceLucas.
Cooper is also the fifth Blazers player to be on the cover of @SInow, after #RickAdelman (once in 1973), #BillWalton (three times during 1976/77 season), #LarrySteele (on cover in 1977 with Walton), and #MauriceLucas (in 1977).
Cooper worked with Blazers GM #GeoffPetrie and followed Petrie when he moved to the @SacramentoKings front office in 1994. Cooper was an assistant coach and director of basketball services until a promotion in 1996, becoming the VP of basketball operations. He retired in 2013.
Cooper passed away in 2022 from kidney disease at the age of 65.

June 24, 1989 - The @trailblazers signed FA center #WayneCooper.
Cooper, a former #Portland player from 1982 to 1984, becomes the third player to re-sign, and play, with the #Blazers. According to reports, it is a 3-year deal for the 32-year old. "I'm extremely happy about it," said Cooper. Cooper missed 3 games in his two seasons with Portland initially, averaging 9.7 points and 7 rebounds.
The Blazers also announced they have waived guard #JerrySichting. Sichting, who was acquired from in a trade from the @Celtics in 1988 for #JimPaxson, played in 53 games for the Blazers. The 9-year veteran averaged 4.1 points and 1.8 assists during his time in Portland.

June 29 1982 - With the 11th selection of the 1982 @NBA Draft, the @trailblazers selected @phattime12 of @ASU.
A day after the trade that sent PG #KelvinRansey to the @dallasmavs for center #WayneCooper, the #Blazers selected the PG from the @SunDevilHoops. As a senior, Lever averaged 16.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists. In his four years with the @TheSunDevils, Lever scored 10.1 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.
The #Blazers VP #StuInman was quoted as saying, "He will be a starter within a year and a half." While Lever had a couple of early starts, he started 43 straight games from early January into April of his rookie year.
Lever recorded five games of double-double in points and assists, as well as 50 games with 5 or more assists during his rookie year. He finished the season averaging 7.8 points and 5.3 assists in 25 minutes of action.

April 29, 1983 - @trailblazers center #WayneCooper had his hands full defending @kaj33, who topped the 30-point mark in the third straight PO game, giving the @Lakers a commanding 3-0 in the #WCSF
#AbdulJabbar finished with 30 points, including 9 points coming in the OT period, grabbed 8 rebounds, and blocked 4 shots. Cooper did force Abdul-Jabbar into an off-night for shooting, connecting on only 11-of-24 FGA with @SInow in attendance for their next cover story. Cooper finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out.
#JimPaxson and #CalvinNatt each scored 22 points and #KennyCarr added 20 more, marking the 5th time three #Blazers scored 20 or more points in a PO game.
In addition, Carr, Cooper, and Natt each grabbed 10 rebounds, marking only the third time three Blazers grabbed 10 or more rebounds in a PO game.

April 20, 1983 - #JimPaxson and @champagnennuts each scored 25 points to lead the @trailblazers to a Game 1 victory. It was the first Game 1 victory for the #Blazers since the #WCF in 1977.
"We just took control of the game," said #CalvinNatt. Natt and #WayneCooper helped carry the boards, grabbing 11 and 10 respectfully as well as combining for 29 points between them. #DarnellValentine added 13 points as all five #Blazers starters hit for double-digits
Only three @SeattleSonics players hit for double-digits, led by #GusWilliams with a game high 34 points. #JackSikma added 23 points and a game-high 15 rebounds while #DavidThompson scored 13 points.

January 19, 1985 - The trio returned as the conquering hero's they turned out to be as the @nuggets defeated the @trailblazers.
#WayneCooper, #FatLever, and #CalvinNatt returned to #Portland for the first time since the massive trade that sent them to #Denver on June 7, 1984 for @KikiVanDeWeghe. The three players not only received a standing ovation during their introductions, but they found flowers, food, and assorted candies in their locker room curtesy of the #BlazersBooster Club. "It only could happen here," said @phattime12.
The three players combined for 57 points, with Natt leading the way with 31. They also combined for 22 rebounds, and 10 assists.
Vandeweghe led the #Blazers with 27 points with @champagnennuts adding 26. #JimPaxson scored 19 points and passed for 8 assists, one behind #DarnellValentine who also added 16 points. Rookie #SamBowie pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Interestingly, when the game started, former Blazer #TRDunn was also in the starting lineup for #Denver and one of the @NBAOfficial was another former Blazer, #BernieFryer.
